I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Freedom from being over managed, great culture, ESPP, office locations, and well-rounded business offering. Learned allot from a small group whom I expect will be following my lead and leaving soon.

    Cons

With a few exceptions in my experience middle management lacks experience and skills. Training is dated and your left on your own for skill development. Not many rain makers or innovative projects. Pay is MUCH lower than industry norms but hours are the same very long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review middle management's ability to stimulate staff and actually perform work. 360 reviews or just observing the daily routine of some employees would provide great benefit to increase productivity and the bottom line. Oh and Tone at the Top, fix it for some practices.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Training is taken very seriously and offered
During recruitment every thing is handled professionally
If you are a golfer you will have ample opportunity to play in tournaments

    Cons

Very weak benefit package - the only non-copay health insurance I have ever experienced
    Weak vacation/non-insutry standard for vacation
    Male/sports oriented culture
Employees told to cold call in their spare time to sell work
I was told by 2 other former employees not to even consider this co - it is churn and burn - I didn't listen, thought it would be different in my practice

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salaries are consistent with the industry although I understand that is recent but the benefit package will not excite anyone except possibly new grads who can remain on their parent's health insurance

    Pros

    Great People who work there.

    Cons

Poor Leadership, not strategic in growing company. Operate with a small company mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in some outside leaders with more global experience and a fresh perspective instead of moving existing people around who have been there for 15 plus yrs.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good global reach for mid-sized firm
On paper, practice groups are complimentary

    Cons

    No communication...from anyone about anything
    Aggressive sales culture prohibits collaboration
    Lack of Leadership
No enforcement of best practices or common go to market strategy
No tracking tools adds to dysfunctional and backstabbing
    Very siloed practice groups
Slow internal processes, many of which are unnecessary

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talent is in place, yet an attitude of resignation is in place to the dysfunction due to your collective weakness as leaders. Revenue goals could be accomplished and exceeded by implementing and enforcing a standard approach that is practiced by all. Lack of education and understanding of various practice groups. Even admin pool have negative attitudes/do whatever they want.

I have been working at Navigant Consulting full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Some practices have exceptional talent at the higher levels. Learning and professional development is valued at the lower levels. The company is involved in a wide range of industries and services so there is the potential to be exposed to a lot in a short amount of time. Many directors show a healthy appreciation of work life balance.

    Cons

Poor total compensation. Promotions are very difficult to attain and the factors leading to it, while defined are often clouded by those in senior levels who prefer to "protect their turf". Being over 100% billable at high rates does not translate into yearly compensation because scores in other areas such as practice development are lowered. Many colleagues share similar frustration and the expectations of management are often completely unrealistic. Do not come to Navigant to get paid well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve overall compensation and allow consultants to focus on areas of strength instead of insisting that everyone be their ideal of the perfectly well rounded consultant. Show more appreciation for the hard work of their employees.

I worked at Navigant Consulting full-time

    Pros

Current technology, great pay, some of the people who work there are incredibly talented.

    Cons

The culture there does not demand accountability or respect of others. It is very much a finger pointing environment, so unfortunately, not much is accomplished. People appear to be more interested in protecting their jobs and salary as opposed to truly helping clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Create an environment of accountability.
