Pros
Christmas Shutdown was nice two weeks paid vacation for WHQ employees
Cons
there is alot of people pleasing
Advice to Senior Management
Understand what is going on within the departments, take an active interest in your people
Pros
products and technology is exciting
Cons
Politics is more than I have ever witnessed at any other company
Total confusion, mass chaos
Company direction is all over the map
Can't make a decision, then when they do you are out of time to deliver
Advice to Senior Management
Pick the projects you want to work on early and execute
Stop fighting the EPA, it's a losing battle
Slow down and do it right the first time
Pros
My experience was not very good in terms of recognition
Cons
There is not much career progression if you do not know someone high
Pros
Well compensated with great benefits.
Was able to make a difference within my department.
The people in Fort Wayne were top notch and many are industry experts.
Cons
Senior management needs to be more open and up front with communications especially important issues like relocation. They are playing with more than just someone's career, there are other personal issues involved in this process.
Capital improvement needs in Fort Wayne were constantly overlooked.
Moving to Lisle (mistake)
Loss of key management team members who were in the process of correcting past management mistakes.
Advice to Senior Management
think the company unestimates how valuable the Fort Wayne workforce is for the company. The engine group gets all the praise and glory while the Truck group fixes all the engine group's mistakes. Had it not been for Fort Wayne, the military business never would have saved this company. There needs to be a real house cleaning at the top. Whether your charged or not, paying a fine back to the SEC shows guilt!
Pros
Navistar makes a great product and hires some intelligent, capable people. It's amazing to watch a couple frame rails roll down an assembly line, and exit at the end as a truck. I'm always proud when I see a truck manufactured at my facility rolling across the interstate.
Cons
Navistar management blocks the company's potential to truly be great by relying on antiquated processes and mindset. The operations workforce is older and resistant to change and technology. It's difficult to drive improvements and growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Support change and growth. You talk change and improvement, but you do not commit. You will frame something as new, different, progressive, when it is actually something old and outdated repackaged as "new". Let's try real change.
Pros
3 weeks vacation at 3 year service
Cons
Only level 7's get promoted ot Directors and they are the only people that matter.
Advice to Senior Management
Wakeup to your Middle Management and have HR with some actual HR experience no finance people in HR
Pros
Good products
Market share high
Leverages business with oveseas market
New corporate headquaters , to be an amazing building to work at.
Cons
Poor culture and Respect for middle people
Comminucation . from managers are poor, middle level is uncut from what's going on within company
Old fashined dominance from certain departments like human resouces and policies.
Lots of ucertainity on people and staffing over new planned building expansion.
Advice to Senior Management
energize new people . Please work on the "cons"
Pros
four day work weeks were nice. gave you a three day weekend. the insurance plan was pretty good at the time.
Cons
there was alot of mandatory overtime when i was there. that was 5 years ago. very few opportunities for advancement.
Pros
Great products
Strong growth
Recent diversification efforts
Cons
Communication is often lacking
Coordination needs to improve
Advice to Senior Management
Need to do a better job prioritizing needs, i.e. improve use of technology. Homegrown systems are problematic and difficult to expand with changing business conditions.
Pros
Provide you with a relatively stable job in a large metropolitan area, which has many opportunities to explore if you are career minded professional.
Cons
Leadership in general lacks vision and execution. There is incredible waste caused by mid-tier management due to either lack of accountability or competency or both. Promotion is mostly motivated by office politics rather than performance. Lack of respect for competency and hard work.
Advice to Senior Management
There is a great deal of efficiency to be unearthed from within and great opportunities to capture in the market place, which will move Navistar to the next level. To get there leadership must have the right vision and the courage to shake up the status quo, and need to hire the performance minded people to take care of execution.
