I worked at Navistar as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

The facility looked great on the outside, I enjoyed the people that I worked with on my team for the most part

    Cons

Management-centric decision making, got the impression that I was just another number, didn't see a lot of true innovation, compensation was far from competitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider focusing more on employee relations. Also, during the transition to Chicago, very little flexibility was offered in terms of moving packages or alternative work scenarios.

Previously great, but now barely hanging on.

    I worked at Navistar

    Pros

Well established dealer network and old school reputation.

    Cons

Upper management functions as if they are trying to apply a basic B-School case the read yesterday. What a shame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clear yourselves out and bring in fresh upper level material before the last few qualified and knowledgeable middle managers take off. Existing leadership is incapable of facilitating the change required.

I have been working at Navistar full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great campus, good group of supportive people. Learn a lot on the job.

    Cons

Constant threat of lay-off over the past three years. No recognition in the form of raises or upward mobility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a BIG announcement that will at the least appear to suggest the end of lay offs and a movement upward. That may help to stop the flow of engineers leaving the company in mass.
