Nexcom headquarters

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Navy Exchange part-time for more than a year

ProsThey call back quickly and try to get everyone an interview. I got called back again to a second interview but was then told someone else was hired. This confused me because I have a degree and experience and I did well in the interviews.

ConsThey had me go to a second interview and still no offer. They do not pay well. They are not competitive with pay and you have to be really close friends with someone to move up they promote who they want to not who qualifies.

Advice to Senior ManagementI recommend an Organizational Developer practitioner come in to investigate and make changes. Some government agencies try to get away with anything

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Nothing but hard work, and very little benefits

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Navy Exchange full-time

ProsHealth, and retirement benefits. That's about it. The experience you can gather from working there.

Consnot enough hours, low pay, management turns a blind eye to the laws and regulations of the industry and government

A great group of dedicated people to work with.

Department Manager (Current Employee)
Virginia Beach, VA

I have been working at Navy Exchange full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe Navy Exchange Service Command is fast paced with good benifits, this is a good place to help the service men and women and feel a part of the miltary effort.

ConsThis is a DOD, Department of the Navy position and comes with all of the gov red tape that hinders progress.

Great company to work with!

Front Desk Clerk (Former Employee)

I worked at Navy Exchange full-time for more than a year

ProsWorked for the Navy Inns. Your customers are the nicest people you'll ever meet. Miltary both active duty and retired were like family. You are part of a big operation that serves the military and also gives back to the military members.

ConsFacility and Buildings needs to be updated.

No respect for employees

Cashier Auto Port (Former Employee)
Groton, CT

I worked at Navy Exchange part-time for less than a year

Prosgreat coworkers and, for the most part, friendly customers

Conshigh level management is out of touch with employees

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you hire a cashier for the autoport, don't ask them to pull weeds outside the store, sweep up grass clippings from the grounds people, and definitely don't ask a cashier to sweep a 12 bay gasoline station on a daily basis. Also, don't leave your clerks in a 90+ degree store for 3 weeks because you can't get someone to fix the air conditioner.

Once in management, the job is great!

Management (Current Employee)
Virginia Beach, VA

I have been working at Navy Exchange full-time for more than 3 years

Pros* Job security
* Good work/life balance
* Decent benefits beyond medical, dental and pension
* Tax free shopping benefit and the exchange
* Career opportunities are there for those with ambition

Cons* In some locations, too many chiefs and not enough Indians
* Unbalanced, unrealistic customer service / task expectation inhibits productivity
* Due to change in culture in the NEX system, there is a vast difference in the skill set and ambition level between tenured employees and new hires

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
