I have been working at Navy Exchange part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Working here feels like working with friends or even family. It's a tight-knit group. Management is very approachable when it comes to issues, and they are quick to solve problems. Training is accurate and informative. Small monetary bonuses are included in your paycheck when you sell a product warranty to a customer or open up a military-affiliated credit account for a customer.

    Cons

The entry-level pay isn't good at $8/hour. Working as a "flex" worker (flexible schedule) gives me only 12 hours per week on the schedule outside of holidays and inventory (when everyone works more hours). Either the pay needs to be upped, or the hours do - or both!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer a higher entry hourly rate. Give more hours to us flex folks!

I have been working at Navy Exchange part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Aside from the opportunity to continually meet new people, the Navy Exchange is very good about working with your school schedule, test days, and finals. The store I work at is almost like a family.

    Cons

Not enough hours, but to be fair my school schedule is also pretty hectic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep doing what you're doing!

    I worked at Navy Exchange

    Pros

Not many, unfortunately. It was simply not a great environment, given the people I had to work with.

    Cons

There is no chance of upward movement, very little change in opportunities and responsibility during employment.

I worked at Navy Exchange full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The people or the Human Resource is the main attraction to this company. You are surrounded by people who are committed to the customer and their needs.

    Cons

Old way of doing things at the top, is not necessarily the best way...they have failed to evolve in their business strategies, the way they promote or delegate high responsibility positions is based on time with the company, not the best fit for the company. Bunch of dinosaur's at the top making big bucks that effect the company negatively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have a good Director or General Manager like I did, do what you can to learn from them. I grew as a leader "leaps and bounds" and benefited from their experiences which they freely shared with me.
