I worked at Navy Exchange full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people or the Human Resource is the main attraction to this company. You are surrounded by people who are committed to the customer and their needs.

    Cons

Old way of doing things at the top, is not necessarily the best way...they have failed to evolve in their business strategies, the way they promote or delegate high responsibility positions is based on time with the company, not the best fit for the company. Bunch of dinosaur's at the top making big bucks that effect the company negatively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have a good Director or General Manager like I did, do what you can to learn from them. I grew as a leader "leaps and bounds" and benefited from their experiences which they freely shared with me.

  5.

Work is not worth the pay. Working there is more of an "I have nothing else to do at home" kind of employment.

I have been working at Navy Exchange

    Pros

SOME of your co-workers will get along with you. You get to shop there, that's pretty much it.

    Cons

The work you do there is not worth the pay! It's retail, what do you expect? Clothes, dozens of customers, markdowns, floor changes, go-backs, and floor maintenance is all over the place. Majority of employees are women, so there is ALOT of "she did this" and "she did that." DRAMA CENTRAL! Managers are too big headed about themselves too.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you care about your company, care about your employees.

    Cons

You meet some bad people. Management is not knowledgable & the wrong people get promoted cause they stay on they're knees in more ways than 1

I have been working at Navy Exchange full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The Benefits, Salary, Retirement, and the Associates, make you feel like your family. They really care about each other and it shows. As for upper management, that's a different story.

    Cons

If you weren't in their "high school click" your out!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I still believe in the core mission. I would go back and work for them in another state other than Hawaii. The NF-05 Operations Manager and NF-04 SOM is something else. They lead their team with negative judgement and assumptions. I worked there for over 8 years and I felt like I was in high school. If you didn't go out with them or had other plans after work, you were an outcast. The VP just stays in his office and doesn't talk to all the associates like our old VP.

    Pros

They had great benefits. They often hired for other positions within the company. You have opportunities to travel to other Nexcom sites.

    Cons

Management with in the IT department was often times unprofessional. They would sometimes make the job a lot harder than it had to be.

This was absolutely the worst job I ever had.

I worked at Navy Exchange part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Only pros would be if you have benefits. That is the only redeeming quality. Underpaid employees are very nice. Management has a lot to learn, period.

    Cons

Management can be very unprofessional, very condescending. Pay is the worst for a sales associate that I have ever seen. They are not concerned about helping employees advance unless you know someone. I have seen upper management yelling at managers on the sales floor. They will write employees up for petty things, just for the sheer joy of writing you up. Very unprofessional work ethic for management. Would not recommend unless you are desperate and even then it is hard to get hired for 7.50 an hour.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some classes on how to be respectful and treat your employees. Just because your pay is crap does not mean you have to be treated as so.
