    Pros

IF you enjoy helping people into homes that other wise wouldn't be able to buy you might consider.

    Cons

You should re-consider if you you don't want to be blamed for everything that goes wrong with their loan....(and there is a lot that goes wrong) the same people you put in 10 - 12 hour day trying to help will hate you by the end of the process in more cases than not. The company lacks a strong structure to support the amount of loans they expect to do. When anything turns south and the members get ahold of upper management and they always do they blame the guys on the street level the LO. I was a top producer for over a year in my office and made a 1/4 of what I do now as an independent LO.

Too little pay for the amount of work/abuse you will take steer clear!

    Advice to Management

Bruce is the dumbest smart person I know, and I say that lovingly. His mission is noble but does not have the right people in key positions in the company. He has rewarded loyalty vs production. Some of the people in very high ranking positions here couldn't make store manager for most fortune 500 companies. Fire some of the goons and surround yourself with the right people to do the jobs. If Bill Gates, or Steve Jobs was running NACA there would be no way HAND, UNDERWRITING, or COMPLIANCE would be headed by the people that run these depts.

I really hope NACA gets it together as it's a great Idea, just ran like a high school debate club.... thats why I had to leave. I can't feed my family with were working on that.....

    Pros

Not many pros to talk about.

    Cons

    Too many cons to tell.

You are not a "master", and you do not own slaves.

    Pros

For the most part the counselors and other personnel from the regional level on down were good people. The mission to help their members was admirable, as there is a real need to help people with financial and mortgage counseling.

    Cons

Working for Mr. Marks, the CEO was like working for Captain Ahab in search of the great white whale. With a dash of Gandhi and a pinch of MLK. It is hard to question his motives and desire to help, but comments about his management style being lacking are spot on, with big questions that are legit regarding his management style. He hires consultants and acts on little regarding making this a good place to work. Micromanagement is his speciality which rolls down through management chain of command, and everything has to have his blessing before being handed down. Hours expectations and workload are extremely unfair and unmanageable. The complaints are monumental, most are fair assessments of the actual process. It would be a beautiful thing if this could be turned around and the compensation from all sources could be shared with the employees.

    Advice to Management

Job specialization with trained employees, with a formalized in house mentoring program would be helpful Scientific Management has been around for over 100 years, and having a more assembly line approach to handle responsibilities in the process, without the every 3 months changes to all the counselors responsibility A-Z back to divided responsibilities should be settled once and for all. I hear they are moving in a "new direction" to ease the burden on frontline counselors, but will it last?It would be a beautiful thing if this could be turned around and the compensation from all sources could be shared with the employees. Pay EVERYONE on production, you have nurtured an environment of management, underwriter and processor entitlement by not paying them on productivity. Hire enough people to handle the load, you will see the increase in productivity, and a decrease in complaints. Even at currently woeful compensation levels, with increased efficiency will be able to make a living. The banks are changing their programs to come close to matching the NACA program, with just a little more out of pocket, they will have NONE of the headaches. Wake up before it is too late!!!

    Pros

Helps the economically marginalized get access to mortgages.

    Cons

The use of "mandatory" this and that, was just too much. The appeal to individuals there is Greed ( "you can make 6-figures...") while the actual motivator afterwards is Fear and Shame. You were expected to work 2 weekends per month "mandatory"; Work late every Thursday (till 7 pm) "mandatory"; You had to account for ALL your time logged on (in 5-minute increments!)

    Advice to Management

Have information be a 2-way thing; Stop demanding info from the cogs while NACA withholds it at every turn. Treat people with the dignity they deserve and expect. Stop using fear and shame as motivator!

    Pros

a small portion of their customers deserve a mortgage and had bad things happen that caused credit to go down. helping this 10% of their customers is rewarding. most customers who apply never get a home due to under staffed and under paid

    Cons

terrible pay, terrible management. uncaring ceo. employees are on public assistance because of low pay. tax returns show non profit has hundreds of millions of capital, yet they refuse to pay employees, working salary employees up to 20 hours a day with no additional compensation nor days off. the worst benefits in the entire industry

    Advice to Management

there is no hope for this company. ceo is set in his ways and the greed is deep, he will never pay his employees what they are worth, he will always over work and under pay you.

    Pros

The company has a great mission. Because it is a medium-sized nonprofit, many employees receive opportunities and experiences that they would not otherwise receive in the for-profit sector, or even with larger nonprofits.

    Cons

Management is extremely centralized and very few things can occur without the personal involvement of top company officials. This corporate control structure makes progressive change very difficult to accomplish. Moreover, bad ideas -- when they emanate from the top -- are often implemented without any meaningful reflection.

    Advice to Management

Top management should make a concerted efforted to hire and retain competent mid-level and front-line managers. Effective decentralized management will relieve a lot of the pressure (and bottleneck-caused delays) at the top that often paralyze the company and prevent it from moving forward.
