I have been working at Neighbors Credit Union full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

flexibility in schedule, federal holiday vacations, staff supportive of each other (within the same level), branch management cares about their workers

    Cons

unwilling to promote from with-in even though they say they do, unwilling to break from tradition of the ways things were done before, bonus goals unreasonable, decisions take forever to make, depend on workers to do whats best for company without appreciation or compensation for workers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your staff ideas, don't overwork your staff, show appreciation

    Pros

get off for bank holidays, good benefits, good customer service for members, non-for-profit, competitions where you can win prizes

    Cons

extraordinarily high expectations with minimal reward for selling products and services, little room for advancement; upper management has been there for many years, making it difficult to advance. once one thing is learned, given more tasks from managers, once that is learned, more tasks. while keeping same expectations with no change in pay, title, or appreciation. not enough provided education for what is expected of one to know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

more open line of communication with front-line, non-management staff. consider revising policies when there is good reason to adjust, be more flexible. reward employees who were most improved compared to the month before, instead of just the best, to encourage people to improve, even if they are not the best. There is a lot of differences in opportunities among branches, positions, and individuals (the same few people typically win the prizes, discouraging others).

    Pros

Some of the managers are considerate and truly care about their employees. If you have a decertification manager the job could be great. If there is room for advancement they do like to promote from within.

    Cons

Neighbors is one of the most under paid credit unions out there. They sometimes set unrealistic goals for the Tellers and MSR's. Upper management makes sure they are taken care of but doesn't worry too much about the lower level employees that do most of the work. I see a lot of favoritism at Neighbors so it really just depends who you are. It's not what you know, it's who you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead by example and listen to your employees. Don't classify them into groups and make them feel unimportant.

I have been working at Neighbors Credit Union full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

hours, holiday's, sick time and vacation time, have good health and dental insurance - offers short term disability and life insurance, very flexible scheduling

    Cons

no pension, union, no merit raises (they lower incentives each year, little by little) , lots of work for little compensation, goals are too complex; hard to keep track of, employee morale is lowering, it seems as though managment doesn't care about what you have to say sometimes. (seems like it)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication is key to keep an organization together. Would like ceo to come out more, need to know what the credit union is striving for, don't get recogonized enough unless you make your goals; hard work doesn't seem to be good enough.

I have been working at Neighbors Credit Union

    Pros

The hours and the holidays were nice. Younger co-worker was a great source of information and had responsibilty for many key things.

    Cons

Management seemed out of touch with department and work activities. No leadership guidance or professional on-boarding process. Long term employees didn't welcome new hires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication lead by management and between staff would greatly improve work environment. Clearly defining expectations for new employees with fair and consistent treatment would improve employee satisfaction.

I worked at Neighbors Credit Union

    Pros

Good Benefits including health insurance and vacation and sick days. Bank holidays are always a benefit if you are lucky enough to work in the industry.

    Cons

Lack of advancement opportunities, the people that work there have for years, with no intention of leaving, meaning you will have to move on if you want to climb the corporate ladder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be more top down communication as to the direction of the organization. A once yearly newsletter, e-mail, or meeting is not enough.
