I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, collaborative work environment, employee perks/discount, most reputable retailer in the business. A fun place to go to everyday for work!

    Cons

Schedule; while better than most retailers there are still holiday black out periods and night and weekend shifts. After 10 years of working a retail schedule I decided to look elsewhere Promotions: if you are able to relocate you will get promoted but the the HR position, there isonly 1 position above you and in most cases the HR Manager is tenured and not looking to leave

I have been working at Neiman Marcus full-time

    Pros

Fun, good starting pay, benefits, vacation time, 401k, good discount, lots of different people you can meet with interesting backgrounds, good for resume

    Cons

bad hours, not enough hours, work weekends and holidays, expensive items, some coworkers do not respect you/your department. Stigma for working there.

    Advice to Management

More direction, better training. Wish Corporate would visit more. CCTVs flashcards for training purposes. Training videos in the beginning would help new hires.

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time

    Pros

The people I worked with were great. Working around so many women comes with some difficulty, but overall it was a great place to work.

    Cons

One of the cons about working at Neiman's was the hours. I guess that just comes with working in retail, though.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to keep up the good work. ALso, never stop the 30/30 program. What a great perk!

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

*Schedule *Benefits are good but expensive *Dress code for support business casual or company provided uniform *There are some good managers but they are overshadowed by all the bad

    Cons

*10 years of service gets you nothing but a crystal clock and an immediate exit upon giving notice. *HR/Management will tell you that you can only move up with a degree which is funny considering that most of them don't have one. *Corporate allows each store manager to run the store as his/her own kingdom so you end up with the inconsistencies of a franchise. *Store atmosphere very political. *HR pretty much makes up rules as they go along and it will never be in the associates favor. Especially support. *Recognition is determined by politics and popularity not actual contribution. *Management ands sales associates get free stuff all the time but support is excluded or not allowed *Sales associates are treated differently than support. Made to feel that they are more important. (Class system within the store). *Very little training due to the fact that upper management doesn't really know or care what you do as support. *Different set of rules for sales associates *HR in store so it tends to get run like a high school *Pay for support is between 12 and 16 dollars an hour so learn to enjoy ramen noodles. *Support works very hard, looked down on, and pay not reflective *No room for advancement. *Management considers a 2 dollar increase a promotion *Slow to embrace technology for support so systems are very antiquated *Because there is very little internal movement, job knowledge is not transferred from managers to associates.

    Advice to Management

You cannot properly manage if you have no idea what it takes to get a job done. Treat all employees with respect. Learn to put business before personal feelings. Associates are not your property.
