    Pros

Very casual office. Wide range of clothing accepted. Agile groups are young, but the commitment is sincere.

    Cons

Aside from a few on-boardinghouse classes, not a lot of strategy for training new staff. There is a big learning curve. This place is not for shy or unconfident people.

I have been working at Nelnet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay with excellent bonuses and good benefits. Not micromanaged. Plenty of technical freedom and opportunities for taking initiative on solutions.

    Cons

Poor performing employees are kept too long, way too long. Many unusual technical hurdles due to dated systems and old technology.

    Advice to Management

Pay more out of the gate for top tech talent. Paying just 10% more than the industry average would change the nature of talent that can be attracted.

I have been working at Nelnet full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company seems genuinely interested in promoting from within, and offers discrete tracks to individuals who want to move up in the company.

    Cons

Information and regulations change frequently, so it can be easy to miss a new policy change or run into contradictory opinions from management about proper practices.

    Advice to Management

Though floor communications are helpful, standardization of information across all resources and levels of employees needs to be improved so that advisers, team leads, and sups are all on the same page.

I worked at Nelnet full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I worked there for almost 9 years (before they relocated the corporate office to Denver). GREAT bonuses and the pay was not THAT bad. Our co-workers became a FAMILY...wonderful work/life balance.

    Cons

The only part I really DID NOT like was that the supervisor would cuss you out in front of everyone but then would take you behind closed doors to apologize.
