I have been working at Neogen

    Pros

    Great coworkers, secure employment, growth

    Cons

Insulting pay! Some employees have been with the company for over 8 years and still make only $2 - $3 above minimum wage. Every employee below management level is underpaid. They will refuse to pay what you deserve regardless of the fact that you will be overworked because they want to save money by keeping hiring to a minimum. They will ignore your bonus if you don't ask for it. You're working to feed big investors with zero return and they will rub it in your face every quarter to tell you the company makes millions more and you only see about a 20 cent raise out of it after making $11/hour for 3 years with a Bachelors Degree. You will live in your parent's basement forever if you don't die first from the asbestos is all the old buildings the company is located in. The work environment is filled with frustrated employees. All who depend on each other to make a day at work endurable. Very high turnover. Everyone quits, no one gets fired. You will start looking for another job in 2 weeks. Unprofessional environment. Very laid back, employees get away with anything such as coming to work late, watching YouTube and sports on the computers while there is work to be done, treating customers poorly, terrible attitude towards work, vanishing for hours at a time with no explanation, taking extended lunch hours, and the list goes on. Usually these are the odd ones out who disrupt teamwork and nothing is done to rectify the situation even with multiple complaints. Do not work here if you are interested in a career. It's not even like a real job. Lack of recognition. Lack of appreciation. A complete morale killer. On the bright side they will buy you a half a sub from the crappiest sub shop in Michigan once in a while. Lots of false advertising. No reference to the fact that every employee is only there for a steady paycheck at 30 - 60 % les than what they will make elsewhere. Listen to the majority of reviews here. I would challenge neogen to interview each employee outside of management and publish the reviews. DON'T DO IT.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use common sense. Listen to your subordinates and work to keep them as they are the ones who grow the company. Fire bad employees especially when everyone complains about them. They only make your job harder but that goes back to common sense.

I worked at Neogen full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and a great place to gain experience.

    Cons

Compensation is insulting, the company cares more about shareholders than employees. The pay is not competitive in the industry, even when compared to other local companies. Bonuses and pay raises are also low, if you get them at all. The company has a very high turnover rate. Most of the talented employees leave because of wages, because there is little room for advancement and because employees are not held to equal standards. Many employees get away with showing up late or leaving early while others get pushed to be at work on time, work overtime and to meet strict deadlines. Very few products come out of R&D, the company profits from buying other companies and inheriting new product lines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is going to continue to lose it's best employees unless you start paying people what they are actually worth. I met some good quality, hard workers at this company, it's sad to see that they all leave for the same reason.

    Pros

There are good people who work for neogen, all of them being normal workers not management or supervisors. The managers are all petty and pass things through qc that should not have.

    Cons

The supervisors let the managers use biases and hatred to manipulate employees, and both supervisors and managers lie to workers.

    Pros

Gain experience. They reuse old buildings. It's a paycheck...

    Cons

    HORRIBLE PAY
    Management is a joke.
Managers micro manage, while treating employees like garbage. They let go of hard working individuals because management does not like them. Supervisors are overworked and under payed the same goes with lower employees. Raises are an insult. Benefits are way too expensive for what you get. They have meetings to tell the employees how much money they make but the employees are stuck making $8-11 an hour. There are employees who have been there for 10+ years and still don't see $10 an hour.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let go of the majority of the manufacturing managers and start over. They are worthless.

    Pros

It's a steady paycheck and they have a company picnic once per year. It's in a park and you are encouraged to bring your own food. In addition to the picnic, many of the employees are great people.

    Cons

    - Pay is embarrassingly low
    - New ideas are not considered
    - Extremely high turnover rate
    - Low company Moral
    - Facilities are not fit for manufacturing
    - Company does not compensate for a reasonable standard of living
    - Raises are nonexistent
    - Upper management does not recognize lower employees
    - Forced to work long hours when a large sale is made and not compensated for your extra efforts
    - Former manager worked Saturdays for 3 months in order to maintain manufacturing demands. Neogen rewarded my former manager with a $50 gift-card for 96 hours of weekend-work.

    Pros

People are a pro, they make the job bearable. A good place to glean experience before moving into something meaningful.

    Cons

    -Pay is dismal
    -Minimal Recognition
    -No Advancement Opportunity
    -Placation of concerns by Management
    -No reward for Experience
    -No reward for Education
    -No reward for Hard work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your people. When 5 year gross pay equals 12x less than Jim Herbert's 2012 bonus pay, this is unacceptable. Build a culture where individuals wish to build a career, not where people cannot wait to leave. Reward initiative. Reward innovation. When your highly trained and experienced technical staff makes 15-35x less than upper management, 2-3x less than sales and marketing, there is something horribly wrong with the company. Get rid of the inept buffoons that saturate the company and divvy up their salaries among those who actually work.

I have been working at Neogen full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

No pros - I am warning everyone to STAY AWAY, worst job experience I have ever experienced.

    Cons

To managers, we are disposable, so they could care less if we stayed or not. Down right worse pay in industry. Zero room for advancement, so expect to stay in the same entry level spot for years. Favortism runs rampid - managers have their favorites and if you are not one of them your life will be hell. Worst manager I have EVER had - extremely fake and backstabbing. My job tasks have not ever compared to the amount I get paid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start to care about all of your employees - not just the ones who are deemed your 'favorite'. Please start to pay people more, the pay is an insult. Please look into all personnel who hold management positions - some people do not deserve to be managers even though they have been here 15 years as they treat their employees like scum on the bottom of their shoe. PLEASE start to care more about your employees. So far 4 people out of a department of 6 have put in their notice in less than 1 month - if you don't start caring you will always loose valuable talent and in turn the company will suffer.

    I worked at Neogen

    Pros

This is a good entry level place to get into quickly and punch out one year of GMP/ISO manufacturing if you're straight out of school.

    Cons

Little room for job advancement, very little actual innovation going on as opposed to expanding the applications of existing technologies, and the salaries are absolutely dismal. Normally industry is supposed to be less interesting but higher paying than academia, but in this case quite a few Michigan State graduate students probably get a higher stipend than their industry counterparts. The scientific literacy of most employees is questionable at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop worrying about turnover. Despite the intimidating descriptions and lingo, the job tasks are easy enough for most community college students to do, so just accept that you can have a steady stream of people grabbing their entry level experience and stop acting mystified by the high turnover.
