Nestlé Territory Manager in Sydney (Australia):   (Current Employee)

What a ride

Pros

Great profitable products across alot of categories. Good family worlk life balance No weekends or shift work with the rewards for good work ethic

Cons

Company is extremely grocery focussed and almost entirely Top heavy with more nutritionists and marketing people employed than sales people. Company does not understand the small business neeeds of Australia in its route market

Advice to Senior Management

There are many reviews completed through the year at many levels, my suggestion would be to involve lower management and utilise those findings

Pros

Work Life balance is respected most of the time. It's easy to cruise without being noticed.

Cons

Poor communications between management and workers. Management/Team Leaders frequently do not know the staff working for them or their capabilities/experience. Working well and going the extra mile is pointless as there is frequently no feedback on any activity done well or badly. Career progression is almost nil unless you want to travel and have worked in the org for 15+ years.

Advice to Senior Management

Empower the staff, get career development started and allow 360 reviews

Nestlé Internal Consulting Project Leader in Vevey (Switzerland):   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

Nestlé is the leading consumer goods company in the world, showing an incredible stability and continuity in its performance and growth. It probably has the most international and multicultural environment of any company. If you are looking for a job where you can experience working and interacting daily with people from completely different backgrounds and cultures, and if you love traveling (short term trips / projects or long term relocation), Nestlé is definitely a company you should consider. Internal mobility in terms of function, location, product category is great, which means that you can always find a new challenging job within the company. This is probably a reason why Nestlé has one of the highest tenures.

Cons

Due to its huge size the company can at times be perceived as slow and bureaucratic. Most jobs at Nestlé require frequent travel or relocation, which is not always appreciated by everyone. The environment is not as meritocratic as in some of the American consumer goods companies and promotions are often linked to seniority or years of service. Top and middle management positions are almost always filled with internal people who have worked for the company for several years.

Advice to Senior Management

Keep up the great work! The Nestlé way is the way to go!

Nestlé Anonymous in Vevey (Switzerland):   (Current Employee)

Pros

Nestle makes great products, recognizes family as being important, and strives to continuously improve in all areas of the company. International travel, assignments, etc. can be very interesting, challenging and rewarding. Nestle recognizes and accommodates employees personal and career goals and can be very helpful to reach both. Nestle is a very healthy company in both the products that it makes as well as financially and is very well managed in this respect making it a very safe and secure place to work in very trying economic times.

Cons

Extra work is often required to meet ever increasing expectations which leads to a very stressful environment.

Advice to Senior Management

While work-life balance is a major theme at Nestle, it is rarely realized in day-to-day work. Senior management should either make an effort to achieve this lofty goal or recognize that this is not the reality and acknowledge it in corporate communications.

Nestlé Business Analyst in Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo (Brazil):   (Current Employee)

Pros

The best reason to work for Nestlé is the international environment and the opportunities to live abroad and learn about different cultures. Offers for these opportunities, however, are becoming less frequent nowadays.

Cons

As most of big companies but certainly more than average, the corporation is slow and bureaucratic, not rarely to the point the the business is affected for years due to the difficulty for reverting a wrong decision taken.

Advice to Senior Management

Hire slow, fire fast, not the opposite, please.

This is one of the best companies to work for in my opinion. They really value their employees and are not afraid to show it monetarily.

Cons

Health benefits could be better.

Advice to Senior Management

Senior management should give more feedback to direct reports.

Nestlé Brand Manager in New Visayas (Philippines):   (Past Employee - 2008)

Pros

The best reason to work for Nestle is the camaraderie and rapport that you will develop with all the employees as your Nestle career evolves through the years. Nestle is indeed a company you may grow with.
Another reason to work for Nestle is because of all the training the company provides for its employees. Nestle invests in its people. Training and development are valued, and there are opportunities for career advancement.
Lastly, Nestle is a global leader in the industry. All over the world Nestle is available, and it is a certified Market Leader in any market. You learn to become the best in the industry from the industry's best.

Cons

At Nestle Philippines, Incorporated (NPI), career advancement opportunity is quite dependent on who your superior is. Obviously this comment is also applicable for any company. However, most companies take the necessary steps to "weed out" the "bad apples" within senior management. Unfortunately, NPI has yet to do so despite numerous assurances to middle and junior management. There is still a number of senior managers at NPI who do not display the Nestle manager qualities and imbibe the Nestle leadership principles.
There is still also too much "layers" in the decision making process. Despite the 2004 transition from a heirarchichal organizational structure into a network structure, NPI has yet to fully shed off all its former "bad habits." Sales commercial planning for example is still done top-down when it should be bottom-up. Other regions practice bottom-up, but it is not the same for all. NPI should do a better job of ensuring that the network structure is indeed followed especially since this is the vision of Mr. Brabeck that all employees were expecting to be implemented.

Advice to Senior Management

To the global senior management, first of all, congratulations for continuing to bring the Nestle name to greater heights especially in today's fast paced global economy. A lot of your decisions are smart business decisions. The mergers in the past years (i.e. Purina and Gerber) and moving into a wellness company have been very beneficial to the Nestle business. I am proud to have been able to work at one point for such a reputable organization like Nestle. I will always have fond memories of the 7 fruitful years I had the priviledge of being called a Nestle employee. Thank you for the opportunity, the training, and the memories.
