Pros
A great chance to learn what you like and dislike about a given industry, moving to a new city for a summer was a great experience .
Cons
I was not given any tasks that challenged me, mostly busy work. While I assumed that this would be the case I thought they would have given me one thing in 12 weeks that would have taken more than a day to complete.
Advice to Senior Management
Take five minutes to get to know who is working for you and what they can do. It is understandable to give interns inter work, but some might be capable of producing some great work if given the chance.
Pros
Well defined processes. Great learning opportunity about how a big business is run.
Cons
Conservative culture with limited room for promotion.
Pros
Great benefits, Great Manager, Pretty good pay, Free car free gas, and lots of free travel and hotel stays training
Cons
The RSR job is tough, especially when you are on the WalMart team, you get little direction in how you are to perform the job and there is LITTLE room to advance to get out of this entry level position! Only the NSDP people have a shot and they get preferential treatment.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat everyone the same. Give non NSDP employees the same courtesy as you would the NSDP people and the same opportunities for advancement.
Pros
Good people, nice benefits, fun perks
Cons
Flat, not much room for growth, systems out dated
Advice to Senior Management
I would recommend Nestle as a good place to build core skills
Pros
Learn alot and joined the over-loading workforce
Cons
Cost pressures lead to LEAN staffing and over-loading
Top management is pre-occcuped with getting their 3 year bonus payout in 2011, at whatever cost.
C&S division is marked with ole cronnies and their followers, not based upon contributions but who you know and been with.
Advice to Senior Management
Be fair and honest about the internal hiring instead of pretending it is objective, it is not and the employees know this.
When the job market opens up, employees are going to bolt so get that high powered HR area ready to crack that nut.
Pros
Good benefits package, specially medical and dental benefits. Compensation is ok.
Cons
Very large organization where sometimes it is difficult to feel apart of if you are working in a remote location.
Pros
Growing company with great portfolio. Management knows where the business is going and leads those trends. Lots of free bottled water.
Cons
Salaries weren't great and promotions rarely happened. Atmosphere seemed to be a bit more on the stuffy and conservative side than I would like.
Pros
The benefits, exposure, and skills learned ar invaluable. The company understands it's business, and it's clients and execute flawlessly at the retail level.
Cons
Career paths are not clear and lateral moves are very common. Total package is fantastic but take home is not great by any means.
Advice to Senior Management
Wanting to employees succeed vs constantly reviewing the negative would go a long in retaining top talent and growing individuals.
Pros
Overall, Nestle is a great place to work. If you negotiated properly, you can do well financially even if you never go beyond manager. They have a pension plan, which is a rarity in 2011. They have perks at work that many companies don't have (unless it's a tech company), such as an onsite gym and a cafeteria.
The biggest positive with Nestle is the people. This is not to say that you will like everyone you work with. Nor is it to say that everyone working at Nestle are great people. However, there are many wonderful and interesting people working here. The relationships you built make it easier to maneuver this "Monster" of an organization.
You really need to be a people person to be successful here. It truly is a place that "who you know" and NOT "what you know" can make or break your career.
Cons
Flatter than a PANCAKE. Don't even think that you will become CFO in 10yrs... Stand in line.... if you came in as an analyst.... "GOOD LUCK" making manager. There are people here as long as 5 yrs and still have not made manager.
If you are lucky enough to be a manager, well, you got a long long ways to go before you "might" be considered for the "coveted" Director position. Very rare do you see managers promoted to director in less than 7 - 9 years after making manager. Many, many managers NEVER make directors. Some have been here 17+ years and are still managers. If you are ok with this, Nestle is the place to be.
Politics is everywhere... this is nothing different from any other company out there. Don't expect this to be different because you will be dissappointed.
Advice to Senior Management
The only thing I can say to management is to "STOP PRETENDING THAT POLITIC IS NOT A CRITICAL PART OF PROMOTION"!!! YOU ARE LYING TO YOURSELVES.... EVERY MANAGER IS HIGHLY AWARE OF THIS.
Pros
Smart People / Interesting Brands / Fun Work Environment / Challenging / Great Benefits / Respect Time-Off / The Glendale Gym
Cons
Flat organizational structure makes it difficult to advance / Sometimes organizational size can slow down decision making / Systems could be better
Advice to Senior Management
We need to figure out a way to create more opportunities for well-deserving, talented individuals. We're losing great people to less-deserving companies.
