- The company is devoted to solving real customer problems
- Excellent flexibility to move around into different job roles and areas
- Devotion to success
- Technology focused

Cons – - Struggling to deliver the next big technological advancement
- Inability to successfully expand via acquisition
- Not great at welcoming people from outside the company

Advice to Senior Management – - Help the team understand what you're trying to achieve and let them execute.
- Don't forget to have fun every once in a while, but try to make it organic, not planned
- Deliver, deliver, deliver

Pros – Friendly enough atmosphere in the local office.

Cons – Upper engineering management listens only to positive news and considers any criticism to be the mark of complainers.

Advice to Senior Management – Consider mid-line+ managers in the next housecleaning. Some of the management has been ineffective forever but are still there.

Pros – Reasonably good communication from upper management and engineering management. The majority of engineers and managers in dev, qa and tech mktg (especially the old timers) are great to work with and for. Competent, dedicated and solution oriented.

Cons – During the hiring frenzy of 2005, engineering brought in some real deadwood senior managers, more than should be expected in any company this size. Those managers proceeded to hire or refer their incompetent buddies.

Advice to Senior Management – You did some housecleaning at the top, now take a look at the mid-levels. And while your at it take a close look at techpubs, that's been a toxic mess forever.

Pros – Great place to work, good work life balance
Telecommuting once a week is fine
People are decent

Cons – You have good growth if your boss is your buddy.
Otherwise don't expect anything for your hard work

Advice to Senior Management – develop the internal people to higher positions...

Pros – Good benefits
Great campus (new buildings)
Nice people
Decent management

Cons – Not good if you work in IT
Recognition for the work you do is rare
Decent chance at having a good manager but you could easily end up with a terrible one as well with the amount of re-orgs
The rest of NetApp might be a pretty good place to work but IT is not part of that "great place to work"

Advice to Senior Management – IT management is noticeably poor and they have done a re-org to try to fix that but it was the IT management that needed the re-org rather than the people reporting to them.
