I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you are looking for a highly collaborative environment with opportunity to work hard and make an impact, then this is your place.

    Cons

With high collaboration, comes the inability to make swift decisions. NetApp is a great place to work but has its internal pains around employee retention, lack of career development and cross-collaboration within certain business units.

    Pros

Open communication and access to Sr. Management.
    Competitive Salaries
    Strong support for sales teams

    Cons

Although the company culture, which it prides itself on, is great, I would like to see larger prioritization placed on work/life balance.

I have been working at NetApp as an intern

    Pros

Volunteer opportunities, great cafeterias, and wonderful employees. The internship program offers many opportunities to learn new tasks and interact with executives and other employees. There are great executive speaker presentations for interns that add a lot of value to the experience.

    Cons

Working here forces you to be self motivated to get tasks done, most engineers tend to keep to themselves so having a social workplace may not be common in your department.

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Beer bash on Fridays
Compensation is competitive with other companies in the area
Most people are hard working and friendly

    Cons

    Health benefits are mediocre
Has its share of jerks in middle management that can make your life Hell
Last two layoffs have gotten rid of some really talented people while leaving blatantly incompetent people untouched

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Apparently they have a good work life balance which amounts to not doing much work.
They have a garage, gym and beer bashes in the Sunnyvale offices

    Cons

Management says No to any new projects/challenges
As a young software engineer you want to write more code, make more changes, break things, fix them, learn ... these things don't happen at NetApp

Pay is sub par. Really it just sucks to be a NetApp employee in terms of $$$.

Fake Emphasis given on Great Place to Work rankings(who cares about this ?). Pay your employees handsomely, ask them to deliver, give them real work, challenge your employees -- you will automatically have a great place to work.

Zero or fake or virtual guidance given on growing new talent.Personal development at work is a myth. I guess NetApp doesn't care about having a good ratio of experienced to young employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on real innovation, emphasize on new technology. Make an effort to ship products with fancy features.

Time to Market is Key, be on par with the start ups out there. NetApp can beat every start up if it decides to wake up. Drive more research. Focus on shipping research and prototypes as quickly as possible to customers. If the driver isn't there write it, take risks.

I worked at NetApp as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Professional growth, technical excellence of colleagues. Management generally good, although not always "on the same page" with one another. I worked for a business line that was a corporate purchase and the original functions had not been completely integrated into NetApp even after years, so my impression might not be reflective of the parent organization.

    Cons

Contractors held as a breed apart, no real path for integration or eventual hire. Seemed to be a culture of non-cooperation between divisions within the organization. Not a lot of teamwork, sort of a rock-star mentality that caused a lot of frustration, duplication of effort and wasted work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn that teamwork has a role. Manage your managers. Stop the constant, needless churn in organizational structure - pick a plan and live with it for a year or two.

I have been working at NetApp full-time

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Management team is doing a good job to boost the company to a new portfolio company.
    Easy communication.

    Cons

Breakfast in selected days. No lunch. Spending is restricted so don't expect too much.
Lots of organization change recently. Release cycle is slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to reevaluate the benefits because job market has been changed a lot. The company is not competitive as before if things keep the same.

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, perks, solid executive management.

    Cons

Middle management politically motivated in shrinking opportunity environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at NetApp full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great company to work for if your in the right department. The culture is not what it use to be but it still good. Work-life balance is great again depending on the department. A lot of good people to work with. Good Benefits!

    Cons

The company has moved away from what made it great. For example Business Operations lacks true leadership. Fear used as a tool to get things done. Is more worried about covering up problems than actually fixing them. Some management is quick put a target on your back if your not inline with them. Yes, even if your proactive, solving problems, and good at what you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to go back to what made NetApp great. Get things done without the BS. If it broken let be known and find a way to fix the problem, stop putting lip stick on a pig.

I have been working at NetApp full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

NetApp takes being the "best place to work" seriously. Facilities and benefits in California locations and larger sites are amazing. Benefits are great. They offer some training and NetAppU is great.

    Cons

Very large company that is somewhat set in their ways. Certain departments not willing to change/improve. Takeover was not smooth and it was a clash of cultures. I wish we were able to work better together but that did not happen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote on merit and experience. Develop employees better and utilize a better improvement program than what was rolled out.
