I have been working at NetApp full-time

    Pros

Very good working environment, with challenging projects and good management. They expect you to get your work done but don't freak out if something is a little late. Many talented employees that work hard. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Would have given 5 stars if there wasn't two mandatory vacation periods for a total of ~7 days. Employees should be able to take their vacation when they want. Wichita employees don't get paid as well as Boulder/RTP/Sunnyvale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep focusing on quality.

I have been working at NetApp full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Positive environment
    Competitive product portfolio
    Opportunity for growth
    Great work/life balance
    Interesting market potential

    Cons

Highly skilled and nice employees whom lack of candor when it is needed most
Inconsistent development methods leading to poor cross functional collaboration
Outdated engineering tools could use refresh (+ slow adoption for new tool exists)
*Often areas for individual learning and growth are not well defined (varies - might be intentional)
Management does recognize many of these issues and they are being addressed (although, it would be recognized faster if employees had more candor)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In the context of software development, improvements can be made in recognizing when a presented solution is not going to work out. Often, the presenter will intentionally cover potential issues to preserve their prestige or dignity. Unfortunately, I have seen management fail to recognize these hidden problems before they've been approved and pushed for development. I understand this is typical for software companies, but it happens more often than I feel comfortable with. In conclusion, we need more candor and less saving face from management and employees.
