    I worked at NetApp

    Pros

    1. Challenging projects.
    2. Great work culture and benefits

    Cons

    1. No scope for lateral movement. They expect you to stick to a particular group for years and discourage exploring other career options especially for engineers.
    2. It is true that the company culture has eroded over time. It is not the place it used to be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay on top of technology trends otherwise you will not be relevant.

    Pros

    Easy to attain work-life balance

    Cons

Work happens at a very very very slow pace because of lots of politics, people are here to while away their time, Below market salary, lousy engineering management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

  6.

Great for exposure to a broad spectrum of technologies. Not so great for professional growth. WAY too many meetings.

I worked at NetApp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to enhance skills in every aspect of the modern datacenter: VDI (VMware, Xen), networking, storage (FC, iSCSI, NFS, CIFS), Enterprise OSes (Windows 2008/2012, RHEL/Debian/Suse, FreeBSD)).

    Cons

Limited/unclear professional growth path for 'in the trenches' IT. Frequent layoffs that negatively impact overall perception of the company among current employees. Management calls far too many unnecessary meetings with no clear purpose for all participants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please reevaluate your use of meetings. Empower and (then) trust your team to do amazing work without your frequent check-ins and questioning. Time is a commodity. Time spent in a meeting should generate a return on investment- not fettered productivity.

    Pros

    - Top notch gym
    - Work life balance cannot be beat
    - Relatively few unnecessary meetings
    - Training classes available
    - 401k match and ESPP

    Cons

    - Compensation (20-30% lower than other similar companies)
    - No free food/snacks/drinks
    - No personal growth due to using outdated technologies and tools (especially for bug tracking)
    - Opportunity to write code as a developer is minimal due to large maintenance on aging codebase
    - Little to no exposure with middle and senior management
    - Upward movement is based on seniority rather than performance
    - Many under-qualified employees (people who are settled down in life with kids, etc. and not interested in what NetApp does)
