    Pros

    Good pay and benefits overall
    Gym is nice
Did I say pay and benefits are good?

    Cons

    Growth is flat
Too many chiefs, not enough indians
Execs give the same old song and dance

    Paltry raises

    Advice to Management

Hold Product teams accountable for their respective sales results, or lack of.

    Pros

Management is generally open about what's happening in the company

    Cons

Poor planning and execution of sales in recent times.

    Advice to Management

Learn from the past mistakes and plan better in future. Do not ignore small and medium businesses as that 's the opportunity for smaller competitors who could be a threat.

    Pros

smart folks; good perks; company tries to focus on work-life balance
Got best companies to work for award

    Cons

not open to new ideas; not sure how it got best places to work for award -- too stuffy, never willing to listen with an open mind

    Advice to Management

Shake up old school folks, bring in fresh blood across the board, revamp and invigorate product innovation. Seek inorganic growth beyond existing products

    Pros

The people work together well, team atmosphere. Direct managers are mostly good and know how to give people room to work.

    Cons

There are some senior managers that have been harassing people for years, with high turnover in their areas, temper outburst, micro-managing and they are still there. Either no one cares or upper management doesn't know how to deal with them.

    Advice to Management

You have done one too many layoffs now so attracting and keeping talent is going to be impossible, a place to start but not to stay. Without talented people NetApp will never climb out of the slump that it's in.

I have been working at NetApp

    Pros

They really take care of their people. Friday beer bash is awesome! Overall great benefits. Competitive salary. Nice facilities and work area.

    Cons

They force you to take two weeks (around 6-8 total days) unpaid while they do two shutdowns a year (one at christmas and one during 4th of July). For a new employee with only 3 weeks of vacation, this is a little difficult. Obviously 3 layoffs in the last three years doesn't help. For my skill set: not much room to grow.

    Pros

NetApp still has the remnants of a great culture, and a notable percentage of folks working there are intelligent and friendly. Pay is on par, or a bit higher than other places in the SF Bay Area.

    Cons

The company has lacked an innovative - let alone effective - product and sales strategy for the past few years, and it's mostly due to leadership. Diminishing sales have taken a toll on revenues, and, subsequently, on the culture. Once a bastion of driven people, it now sees far lower levels of productivity.

    Advice to Management

The recommendations were there from your strategic teams, and you didn't act; rather, you blamed the economic downturn and the sales organization's inability to close as times have become increasingly tough. Try something different.
