took a growing leader in online banking and created a mortgage-centric monster that totally collapsed

    Pros

Before the merger with RBMG, Netbank was a great place to work with management that was open and worked hand-in-hand with employees. That all changed after the RBMG management team forced out most of the senior management that was in place at Netbank. It would never be the same place to work again.

    Cons

Senior management (who came from RBMG) took a growing leader in online banking and created a mortgage-centric monster that collapsed under their totally inept management. Doug Freeman got his golden parachute and the rest of the company endured the crash-and-burn of a once great place to work.

Even as Netbank was starting to feel the financial pressure, management refused to sell a high-growth subsidiary to a very interested buyer. Rather than net several million dollars and allow 25 employees to keep their jobs they just laid off the whole subsidiary and left their customers in the lurch.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They totally blew it. Their unending focus on the mortgage market, bad underwriting practices, and totally nonexistent oversight were the keys to their demise.
