    Cons

little to no transparency, middle of organization is ruled by tyrants and empire builders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

no matter how technically great someone might be, you have to have the discipline to cut off the cancers that infect the organization.

    I worked at NetLogic Microsystems

    Pros

    - Salary was decent for me, as was RSU component
    - Office building is nice
    - Project road map is solid, at least for the short term
    - Opportunity to gain experience

    Cons

Many of the senior engineers from the RMI days have already left, or they have simply checked out, waiting for their RSU/options to vest. What remains is under experienced engineers and managements. Project management is largely ad hoc and there is very little (if any) technical leadership. The issue isn't talent, it is the undue stress on employees caused by short development cycles, poor management, ego's driving technical decisions, etc. One can spin this as being a company with a start up feel, but I see it as undue stress on employees.

    - Limited opportunities to move to management
    - Small (basically single person) team leading architecture of next generation chip.
    - 4 years vesting period of RSU (I am not sure what is average in the industry, but could be shorter)
    - No 401K matching

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire technical leaders to set direction. Methodologies evolve. You can't expect processes from years ago to apply to today's chips. Encourage engineers not to work in a bubble. Also, be more transparent, hold more meetings, show the employees that there is concrete plans moving forward to reduce some of their concerns.

I have been working at NetLogic Microsystems

    Pros

Compensation package is very competitive. Small company environment is good to work in. Upper management seems to be very good and has a clear direction for the company.

    Cons

Because of the small size of the company, it feels like a startup in the sense that you have to do over and beyond your job sometimes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For Netlogic to move to the next level as far as a major company, they will have to start working towards employee loyalty and implementing programs to make employees feel they are truly valued, this is in addition to normal compensation.
