Pros
Probably the best thing about the company is the fact that you get to work with very interesting cutting-edge data: clickstream data and Intenet app use from a worldwide panel of Internet users. That in itself is woth a lot in terms of career enjoyment, advancement, and just plain good times. In addition, NetRatings has attracted a great pool of fun, engaged people who are smart, and willing to work hard and play some too! It's right off 680, which is a major plus for those in the east bay that want a silicon valley job.
Cons
Milpitas is feeling more and more like a satelite office of a larger organization. Officially this is the case since the official absorbtion into Nielsen Media (new name = Nielsen Online). Upper management in turn turns to Milpitas more as it's technical arm - not terrible but leads to some aggravation. The virtual office environment of many departments is a wonderful way to leverage talented people regardless of location - but definitely makes peole feel less unified than in days past. If you're in the valley the commute all the way out to Milpitas can be brutal, and you get the occasional stink of the bay in the heat of summer.
Advice to Senior Management
Management has done a good but not great job of making employees at all locations feel important. I think there could be a LOT more in terms of making the Milpitas folks feel more integral to the company - autonomy with respects to certain areas of work could help a lot.
