I have been here for 4 monhts and have already started interveiwing elsewhere.

Operations Analyst (Current Employee)

I have been working at Neuberger Berman full-time for less than a year

ProsCo-workers are freindly and easy to get along with. The hours are flexible and I can sometimes work from home.

ConsPay is low
401k could be much better, espeacially considering that we are an investment company
Technology is very outdated.
Everyday is perpetually worse than the day before.

I just want to add that I was at my last job in the same industry for 5 years and really enjoyed it, but we decided to relocate to NYC for personal reasons and I took the first job that was offered. However I did think that this could have been a great oppurtunity and that I could advance in the company. I was mistaken, I look around at people who have been here 10+ years and are still at my level. I personally don't like interviewing and didn't want to job hop, but I have no choice. This place flat out sucks.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut some money and resources into operations, its not 1993 anymore. Also you could think about changing the structure of the 401k. Last year at my old company matched 100% of my first 4% and then 50% of my contribtuions up to 10%, not to mention my end of year performance bonus match. I contributed 6% and they matched 5% in addition to the 8% bonus, that is 13%; I got 0% from NB becuase I hadn't been here a year yet. Your "Robust" compensation plan that I was told about turned out to be pure "BS."

Overall Good Company

Client Associate (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Neuberger Berman full-time for more than 8 years

ProsDepending on group and manager there is flex time and the ability to sometimes work from home

ConsLack of mobillity and training for those employees who want to advance. At some times, Management's view appears to be if you don't like things, leave.

Advice to Senior Management(1) Provide more training such as mentor programs or basic training sessions for those who want to advance or transition into other areas. The lunch and learn is nice, but not realistic to help one advance or obtain real hands on experience. (2) 401k match needs to be better

Growing Pains

Analyst (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Neuberger Berman full-time for more than a year

ProsExecutives and upper management do listen to feedback from below.

ConsBackoffice roles (IT, HR, Finance, etc) are unorganized. This leads to inefficiencies and poor support for employees and managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementExecutives and upper management need to start working together to move towards establishing standards for compensation and job movements rather creating exceptions that are impossible to keep up with.

It's a stable and conservative firm but being small, not too many opportunities to move up

Assistant Vice President (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Neuberger Berman

ProsCommunication from top is clear. Supportive management as long as we take the initiative. Benefits are competitive. People are helpful and knowledgeable

ConsFirm is small so upward mobility is challenging. Benefits need to improve on the 401K match and annual pay increase. Stagnant for few years

Advice to Senior ManagementMake 401K more competitive by matching a higher percent and dollar amount. Allocate more resources for employee training to improve skills and learn new technology.

Horrible

Executive Assistant (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at Neuberger Berman

ProsGreat health insurance, free parking or DART

ConsNo HR in Dallas, this place is in SERIOUS need of a work audit! Several people are paid full salaries for showing up to work late, leaving early, taking long lunches, and sitting in the worthless office manager's office gossiping all day.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a work audit, check competency of employees (someone that can not tell you what the company does, has no basic microsoft office skills, is unable to scan a document should not be an "office manager")
