I have been working at Neuberger Berman full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat firm. Special culture. An amazing place to work - a firm owned by the employees run for clients and employees

ConsCan be less dynamic than big broker dealers, such is the nature of being a fiduciary. Stability is prized more so than at most firms

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work. I appreciate that every voice is heard

Neuberger Berman

Marketing and Product Development (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Neuberger Berman full-time for more than 3 years

ProsVery collegial environment and flat organizational structure. You get a lot of exposure and interaction with senior management, investment professionals, marketing, sales, etc. Depending on what group you're in, there is also a very entrepreneurial environment, where you can propose things and then try it out.

ConsSimilar to other asset management companies, the portfolio managers rule the roost. Anyone in a non revenue generating part of the business is treated that way (including compensation and advancement opportunities). Advancement opportunities are difficult to win and it's not clear what your managers are looking for.

Advice to Senior ManagementDecisions that are decided at the top don't seem to flow to the rest of the team and when they do, they don't always make sense, so management should work on improving communication.

There are probably better firms at which to start your investment career.

Analyst (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Neuberger Berman full-time for more than 3 years

ProsRecognizable brand. Great access to information from the street. There are some good investors to learn from.

ConsNo training. The people are very hit-or-miss: some are great to work with or for and others can be downright nasty. Very conservative. Easy to get stuck in the mid-levels.

Advice to Senior ManagementNot very clear how performance is measured.

Worst Company to Work For

Event Planner (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Neuberger Berman as a contractor for less than a year

ProsThere are absolutely no good reasons to work at this company.

ConsThe company does not care about their employees at all. If you live far away and there's a blizzard or an ice storm, they expect you to be in the office regardless even during a state of emergency. Your personal safety is not a concern to them at all and this is clear also in the way that they will harass you. When it comes to your pay, they will nickel and dime you. They claim they care about the budget but then waste money nonstop. This company believes that your life should revolve around your job. They will expect you to work weekends and late nights. Say goodbye to your life because it will be completely gone once you accept a job here. Worst company culture that I have ever seen-- they don't even have holiday parties for employees at Christmastime. If you'd like to go to the employee-run holiday party... that will cost you a good amount. Zero employee appreciation.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to your "Vice Presidents"-- many of them don't deserve to be "Vice Presidents" and they allow that title to go to their heads by treating anyone below them with complete disrespect.

Terrifying Management culture in Neuberger Operation

Operation Analyst (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Neuberger Berman full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIf you like a 9am to 5pm flexible job that does not challenges your analytical view, this is the place for you. However, the terrible management culture makes these benefits worthless.

ConsAbusive management with no proffessional training are making their own work rules. Human ressource is too weak to supervise them. Stay away from the Operation department.
There are no career mobility at this firm, age group is from 29 to 55. The cover up is projects that are not aligned with its business goals. Management can't retain any talented employees and reward inneficiencies to keep their positions safe and empower employees.

Advice to Senior Management-Keep your projects aligned with your business goals
-It's the 21st century, train your management team. A culture changeleads by examples not just beautiful words in writing.
-Treat employees better at workplace and provide competitive salaries not just ice cream and cookies.
