I have been working at New Balance full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

flexible schedule, great benefits, highly motivated innovation teams, ability to greatly influence the future of New Balance as a brand and company, company environment favors driven employees, supportive of healthy, active lifestyles

    Cons

conservative design decision making, headquarters is split between 2 offices in separate towns - would be efficient and more productive to be in the same location

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

engage with other departments within the company and align on larger strategic planning initiatives; focus on long term innovations 10+ years out

    I worked at New Balance

    Pros

Great people on the production floor.
Like any other place you can find good people in all departments.
They sponsor a lot of activities (most of them during weekends).
The company is involved in the community.
    Good perks.

    Cons

There is not a lot of team work. It is very disorganized and you end up doing everybody else's job. Manufacturing/production is particularly stressful because of the lack of management and management unrealistic expectations. It is not easy to move around to other positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be careful with who is promoted to "leadership" positions and the reasons people are promoted. Make sure the people in these positions know how to work in stressful situations, know what they are doing and know how to interact with people.

I worked at New Balance as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Such a relaxed environment and they truly believe in balancing your work and home life. You rarely stay at work past 4:30 PM. Everyone is so friendly and inviting as well.

    Cons

There honestly are no cons about working for New Balance. The only thing I would have to say is that it takes a while for them to get back to you with their decision on hiring you or not for a permanent position.

I worked at New Balance as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Hours are flexible and work-life balance is respected. Work space is a very cool old mill building and NB has tried, with some success, to keep the feel of the building historical. Benefits are good.

    Cons

Management team is disorganized and does not seem to have much experience, well... managing. They don't lead very well, and they don't seem to manage the business strategically. People seem happy enough but many of them are getting close to retirement, not focusing on revitalizing the product or the business, just riding the wave.

In the department in which I worked, there was no room for growth. The projects were uninspired and old school. I needed to move on before my skills became outdated.

Probably the saddest thing is that the whole time I was there I didn't find one pair of their shoes that was comfortable. I bought shoes because I was expected to wear sneakers, but only New Balance sneakers. Now that I am no longer there I no longer wear their footwear at all.

I cannot say that I would recommend this company to a friend.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't resign yourselves to selling to an aging customer base. Make the good looking shoes comfortable too and you'll sell some.
