Pros
Good small software company to work for. Finds good ways in improving product based of what opportunities exist in the market. Good product compared to competitiors
Cons
End results were not always closely modeled after the strategic plan. At times small quorums were not effectively diffused amongst co workers, nothing too different than normal office politics.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management could do a better job of taking time to understand all employees and echo a uniform attitude throughout the company. Need to revisit the strategic planning and how to effectively execute the plan.
Pros
Flexibility, empowerment, good work environment, good learning opportunities. Good to work for a software company since you are a provider of value rather than a cost.
Cons
It is a small company so they don't have financial resources with all that can mean. If you are friends with the owner, you are in and if you aren't you are out. Nothing personal there. That's the way small companies are.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep an eye on the long term, create good business plans, accept diversity of employees, request employee feedback and even if you don't agree with it, give it a good hearing and consideration.
Pros
Small company provides opportunities for large responsibilities, unique challenges, and growth. Flex-time and ability to work at home is very nice. Ability to work on many tasks without much oversight allows employees to achieve to their full potential. Heads down shop without a bureaucracy can lead to successes. Casual atmosphere.
Cons
Small company means that they can release you if there is a perceived need, regardless of accomplishments or abilities. Sink or swim attitude can lead to surprises. It is important to consistently ask for feedback on how performance is being perceived. Recently there have been a lot of departures from the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Connect with your employees to ask for their feedback. Question all sides of an issue before making a determination, since the truth may be hidden. I really like working at NBT.
