    Pros

Great training and development and real commitment from CEO/MD to people issues
    Fast paced culture
Low bureaucracy - very easy to get things done
Young company where it's possible to be a director by early 30s

    Cons

    Not always the most organised
Can be tough if you aren't performing well

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in development and growing the business, develop menswear and make sure the stores are valued as much as BMD teams

    Pros

Company values staff and head office listens to staff opinions through many different schemes. Fast paced, working environment that really emphasizes good team work skills.

    Cons

Towards the end of my employment benefits for employees started to decrease, such as a cap placed on staff discount spending, reduction in breaks and a removal of extra bank holiday pay.

    Advice to Management

Increase work-based benefits for staff and provide more opportunities for development. Reduce the number of targets individual staff members must hit; there are too many to count!

    Doesn't Recommend
    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

    - Good staff discount
    - Decent staff room

    Cons

    - Put in fitting room for 6 hours alone, no change, repetitive boring job
    - Breaks only after 6 hour shift
    - Going to toilet is frowned upon (even once in 6 hour shift)
    - Disregard new staff and tend to hide them in quiet fitting rooms or tidying sale
    - No time to bond with team. Even when store is closed and tidying when closing, employees must work in silence.
    - Poor exit process. Expected to work longer than my given notice.

    Advice to Management

    Nurture new employees.
Supervisors have powertrip, everyone should be treated equally.

    Pros

Good benefits including 50% discount on a shop worth up to £60. These benefits are restricted as you only get to use it 5 times a season.

    Cons

Management are poor. Often expected to do a lot of work from the get go. No easing into the role.

    Advice to Management

Show your new employees how to do the job before letting them go loose on the floor. I was employed with 5 other new people and we were only told how to use the till for an hour and then put on a till straight away.

I worked at New Look part-time

    Pros

Hours of work usually given to suit you. Easy work. Decent pay for the type of job. Great staff discount of 50%.

    Cons

The job can be very boring.

I have been working at New Look part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Staff discount is amazing. Coworkers are generally nice as well. Good music.

    Cons

Can get boring, I only want a few hours a week and they try to give me way more so this has cause problems for me.

    Advice to Management

New Look needs to invest in a better scheduling/rota system. My store has over 80 employees and the manager that does scheduling is always messing it up (understandable because there are so many of us), but it creates a lot of problems for employees that are being scheduled on days that they aren't available and when the manager has to go and re-do the rota multiple times.

    Pros

    Good colleagues
    Fun shifts sometimes when busy
    Generally good, open-minded management

    Cons

Though management were approachable, unfortunately a lot of the time it was all empty promises. Say one thing but never get around to it. Maybe if you keep hassling them you might get your way eventually, but even so.

    Advice to Management

Do what you say you're going to do! Listen to your employees and don't make empty promises. Best to just be honest up front rather than promise the world and deliver nothing...

    Pros

    - Always busy, never boring

    - Staff discount

    Cons

    - Management was the major issue I had with New Look, well in this store anyway. I found that a one or two of the store managers were completely incompetent and had a really shoddy attitude. One in particular seemed to be on a constant power trip and was far too immature to be in a managerial position.

    - The same again with some of my co-workers. Most were lovely and more than happy to help. However, there was one or two who have obviously been there a long time and seemed to think that they were managers and often talked down to the new employees. There was often a 'them and us' atmosphere between the new employees and management/older employees.

    - They are completely inflexible when it comes to hours. I was a student at the time and I started to working at new look for some extra money at university. However, they gave me far too many hours which left me no time to study. When I took this up with management, they simply told me that these were the hours that I was contracted to and straight up refused to do anything about it, which forced me to leave the job (probably a blessing in disguise). If they want to retain staff, they need to do something about this, especially since a lot students go to work there.

    Advice to Management

Head Office need to monitor their store managers more closely as there are one or two bad eggs that seem to abuse their position.
