    Pros

Good people to work with. Great grand rounds. Interesting research studies. Great health benefits.

    Cons

The culture of the facility is horrible. They treat minority patients horribly. Management doesn't care about the problems that are occurring in the facility.

    Advice to Management

Meet your staff. Humble yourselves. Have management training.

    Pros

Talented staff doing important work, possibility of collaborating with very skilled, well know researchers.

    Cons

However department is organized as series of fiefdoms that function in silo type environment. Advancement can be difficult especially if grants do not come through.

    Advice to Management

Develop a well integrated, coordinated vision.

    Pros

--Research that will help many people --Tuition reimbursement --Great Grand Rounds --Experiences vary by labs --Many great researchers working here

    Cons

--Politically charged research environment --State-run facility with poor maintenance and management --Many PIs indifferent to research participants --Little coordination between labs --IT not very supportive --Poor email system in place that is deleterious to project management

    Advice to Management

RFMH needs some serious help in monitoring the fidelity of technology transfer efforts. More attention needs to be placed on maintaining scientific integrity rather than sealing the deal. Experiences vary greatly by lab. Pay close attention to your particular lab and PI.

    Pros

I had a good environment and good people to work with. The data that I worked with was relevant to my interests and I was able to travel to present our findings.

    Cons

Actually gathering the data was tedious and mind numbing. I was counting neurons all day.
