    Pros

Good hours, good pay, good benefits, good employees. Employees work hard, contribute willingly to community needs and are just good people.

    Cons

Management refuses to take responsibility and has a Corporate attitude where they separate what they do from the rest of the company. Some UNION attitudes at work with the employees too.

    Advice to Management

Face the consequences of your actions and take responsibility.

    Pros

Wages are very good. Some positions present a challenge and a sense of accomplishment. Many of your co-workers are great to work with.

    Cons

Not all things are as they seem. There often seems that an agenda exists but is not shared with everyone. Some positions have no chance for advancement due to union seniority.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. Most of your employees are devoted to the Company's success and work hard to be part of that success.

    Pros

The employees are great to work with and generally speaking a nice place to work.

    Cons

Leadership is very poor, focused mostly on themselves and their long-time buddies.

    Advice to Management

Make decision for the good of the company and not your own pockets.

    Pros

Most of the employees are great to work with. SAP is the ERP and I enjoyed working on it.

    Cons

Just got out of bankruptcy and are laying off 2 to 3 employees a week at the corporate headquarters. Expenses have been minimized.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with the plans for the company and its employees.

    Pros

In a very low cost of living area, NewPage offers employees at the Luke mill some of the best wages per hour for their hourly employees.

    Cons

The biggest issue NewPage faces is the current status of the paper industry. Constant cutbacks in spending and employment have plagued the mill for several years. Very little of the money generated is reinvested back into the company.

    Advice to Management

Focus on making money. Don't be afraid to admit you don't know or understand something and allow the people who have worked the job for 30 years do it.

    Pros

Stable employer Great sales team Value and encourage team-work (regardless of department) Community involvement Work / life balance Wellness programs Knowledgeable & experienced senior management team

    Cons

Lack of career development - ie: managers - they manage more than develop their reports. no formal mentoring programs Typical office politics Pay is frequently at industry minimums Management needs more engagement with people doing the day to day jobs

    Advice to Management

Career development - Implement a formal mentoring program; Push to learn each employee's career aspirations and update that information / understanding on a regular basis; additionally offer insight from management's perspective on potential opportunities based on their views of the individual's strengths, weaknesses and aspirations. Implement "Employee Engagement" surveys, at least bi-annually, to determine employee satisfaction - level of challenge, rate of pay, opportunity for growth, etc.
