    Pros

Learn some research based best practices, however, the staff development provided has been lacking/cut due to current administration determined to cut budget

    Cons

Extremely high turn-over rate of staff
    Lack of clear direction
    Non-existent mentoring for new staff
Departments drastically cut funding, which results in no where to go for assistance from central office

    Advice to Management

Nothing will change until the current superintendent is dismissed

    Pros

No pros. Unfortunately this district may be the most corrupt and unethical in the country.

    Cons

There are a few set of individuals in the city that have control of what goes on and do as they please breaking state and federal laws and are not reprimanded. With that said, if there's administration that has a bone to pick with you, it doesn't matter the quality of work you produce as they will ruin your reputation within the district and may even go as far as your career as an educator. Most alarming is that this district is not working in the best interest of the students but those who have vested in privatizing schools by means of charter schools.

    Advice to Management

No advice, the problem stems all the way from Trenton. If tax payers knew how much money this state-operated district waste on settlements and cover-ups, everyone from the State Superintendent to most administrators and everyone in between would lose their jobs.

  6. Corrupt educational system at its core

    Pros

There are no pros here, the whole system works against teachers, they are coming with this master plan of "renewing" schools, so this is what they do: fire everybody from the old schools and they put them in this pool of teachers called "talent match". Now what happens is that these renewed schools hire the same teachers that other "renewed schools" fired, so basically is a stir and mix technique but this time the ingredients are the actual teachers, but the fault is not at the teachers but the actual management that is corrupt at its core, for example no one knows what happened to the millions of dollars that M. Zuckeberg of Facebook donated for the NPS, that money simply disappeared and schools didn't get any better, in contrary.

    Cons

Newark it's one of most dangerous cities in US, schools are old, kids misbehavior and discipline is a big issue, commute is the worse because most of the teachers don't live in Newark proper because it is very dangerous and life threatening .

    Advice to Management

Stop renewing schools it's not working, get the problem to its core, discipline is a big issue here, students don't respect the school authority at all, you have to work at that otherwise you will deeply damage the community in Newark producing weak students that will not succeed in life and will be prey of the gangs that run this city.

    Pros

I am in school and this job pays $14/hr which is pretty ok for a 20 yr old with little work experience and a couple credits. Helping the children is personally rewarding and honestly they need people who care, so it feels good to help.

    Cons

very disorganized hiring structure and overall tedious to get my first paycheck-4 months after i officially got hired. &it's scary that they would let you stay a temporary employee for years

    Advice to Management

Hire people who actually seem to care opposed to those you personally care for

    Pros

The people try to make the work all about the children and their education.

    Cons

The current administration team is all about making money and their way or the highway. They've lost focus on the real job, educating the children of Newark.

    Pros

You work with students and have the opportunity to change and improve lives.

    Cons

The District does not provide ample nor the technological resources to prepare students for college or alternative careers.

    Advice to Management

Know your population and become more proactive and visionary to guide their progress, both academically and behaviorally.

    Pros

It was a great working with my students most of whom had varied potential and some of whom enjoyed the challenge offered in my class.

    Cons

The unprofessionalism at the central office, as well as issues with pay, peppered my experience with much dismay.

    Advice to Management

Central office staff needs business office etiquette training. Administration needs to attend school law seminars to prevent some of the egregious violations of students rights.

    Pros

Students are respectful as long as you are doing your job and be strict. However there is no discipline system, especially in our math department. No one respects our Math VP

    Cons

No discipline system is in place. Also, people are respected by how well they put a show, now how well they know the content and deliver the content
