    Pros

The people try to make the work all about the children and their education.

    Cons

The current administration team is all about making money and their way or the highway. They've lost focus on the real job, educating the children of Newark.

I worked at Newark Public Schools full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It was a great working with my students most of whom had varied potential and some of whom enjoyed the challenge offered in my class.

    Cons

The unprofessionalism at the central office, as well as issues with pay, peppered my experience with much dismay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Central office staff needs business office etiquette training. Administration needs to attend school law seminars to prevent some of the egregious violations of students rights.

I have been working at Newark Public Schools

    Pros

competitive pay, working in underserved area can be very rewarding, and there are elements of reform within the district.

    Cons

overall school district has many management issues, many entrenched groups with their own agendas. The teacher's union is very powerful and opposes reforms, allows bad teachers to keep their jobs so that good teachers have to work harder to pull the extra weight.

I have been working at Newark Public Schools full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Students are respectful as long as you are doing your job and be strict. However there is no discipline system, especially in our math department. No one respects our Math VP

    Cons

No discipline system is in place. Also, people are respected by how well they put a show, now how well they know the content and deliver the content

I have been working at Newark Public Schools full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I live in the city so, travel time is great.

    Cons

Promotions are not considered. For example if you are a non-instructional employee you will never be promoted to the instructional status. I have tried.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote, within the system and stop going out-side the system, promote within.

I worked at Newark Public Schools full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The kids are the best part of working here. I really enjoyed meeting the kids I worked with and consider many as part of my family. If you show you love and care for them, they return it ten-fold!

    Cons

The administration is incompetent. I experienced a terribly hostile work environment and health issues due to the stress of working there.

I have been working at Newark Public Schools full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It was a pleasure working in and around making that connection in the community, Helping families and Children learn and grow. Most coworkers were friendly.

    Cons

Not compensated for your experience and knowledge of you job and others that you perform wile on the job. No overtime and can't collect over the summer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evaluations should be done on time. Be meaningful and be salary composted to your experience and knowledge.
And also be a tool that can be used for an other employer.
