Pros
Great internship program
Hands-on SAP experience
Opportunity to work with members from various different GBUs
Positive guidance from managers
Cons
Not much bad to say, because I had a great experience as an intern. Perhaps consider concrete projects for summer interns.
Pros
You work with great people every day in a beautiful building with a cafeteria, gym and employee store. *Some* managers know and understand the business and groom their reports to excel and move forward in their career paths. Company car and fleet gas card for all sales people is a great perk.
Cons
Pay is lower than competition. Benefits exist, but are poor and more expensive to the employee than competition. No employee stock program. Newell as a corporation does not care about their employees or the community.
Advice to Senior Management
Newell wants to be perceived as a consumer-driven, marketing-focused, branded organization and while some GBUs/functions are moving in the right direction, most functions are not capable of supporting a #1 brand. Think about building a long-term, stable business, not just this quarter's initiatives.
Laying off people to make the P&L look better for Wall Street creates a miserable working environment. Newell recruits amazing people, but loses most after only a few years due to layoffs or people leaving because the company just simply does not care about them, their development and their careers.

Beautiful Atlanta office, young crowd, nice ammenities, lots of opportunities on projects, great exposure to upper management
Cons
pay, benefits, promotions go to only those who managers personally like; has nothing to do with competence or experience. Very old school upper management, business is declining in most categories. layoffs.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate the people who are willing to rock the boat to drive positive change.
Pros
Good salary, nice people, very professional and formal culture, way too many IT people supporting SAP and similar IT projects
Cons
Was very risk adverse. Focused on execution not long term brand building. Looked only for low hanging fruit vs. investments in technology, supply chain partners, and true brand building
Advice to Senior Management
Partner with more innovative organizations to leverage skills and opportunities. Listen to consumers not marketing managers, sales and customers only.
Pros
-The headquarters office in Atlanta is beautiful, great people to work with and lots of resources available
-Great area with plenty of useful resources and technology
-The people are phenomenal. A good majority of the employees are quite young, and very fun to be around and willing to help when needed.
-Machine shop available for prototyping and fabrication (has since been relocated off site)
Cons
-Did not always have meaningful projects assigned to me.
-A high tendency, as is common in R&D, for projects to "fizzle out" taking all of your hard work and dedication along with them.
-Bosses did not always do a great job explaining the significance of a project or encouraging completion.
-This company does not invest hugely in innovation, but rather trying to perform as well as the competitor for less. Many of my projects involved trying to replicate technologies of a competitor item.
Advice to Senior Management
-Appreciate your interns more, assign more meaningful projects that have significance to the company.
-Invest more in innovation! Your products will never gain a strong footing if they only do as well as the competitor.
-Stop spending money on the corporate jet. It is wasteful.
-Pay the interns more, Living in Atlanta is not cheap, and it encourages more productivity.

If people liked you things went pretty smoothly.
Cons
People would ignore very obvious abuses of power.

Stop getting the company in debt

Can make an impact quickly, good team work. Enjoy having my voice heard and opinions considered.
Nice people, and great perks in the Atlanta office - cafe, Starbucks, gym and company store on-site.
The environment is friendly and people work hard.
Cons
Benefits are ok
Training isn't consistent across organization
Work life balance doesn't seem to be handled consistently across the organization

Smart people working hard to grow the brands and the company. Great location in Atlanta, GA. Lots of opportunity for the company to grow based on a strong portfolio of brands.
Cons
Housing and consumer confidence have an impact on growth opportunities. All cube office environment can become noisy at times and privacy is at a premium.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to improve the benefits package and build synergy across the company.
Pros
Leadership is moving the company in the right direction. Great company with great brands. Company still feels small despite been a $5.6 billion conglomerate. Decent collaboration between the companies.
Cons
Limited ability to move to other roles so you can get boxed in the role. Unfortunately, the company tends to take the "cheap" way when it comes to resources.
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage career growth and promotion.
Pros
HQ building is great, the people are really good, very competent leadership and the work is rewarding in that you are making products that change people's lives. They have employee resource groups for African Americans, women, Hispanics, Asians and GLBT. Managers seem to be in touch with what's going on.
Cons
Pay is not quite on par especially when you consider how hard you work. Benefits are very expensive. Almost an up or out culture. There's a very short leash if you don't perform. Like a number of companies who talk work life balance, it's not a reality.

Do more to make work-life balance a reality.
