I have been working at Newfield Exploration full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement and higher salaries exist for all employees, regardless of age, based on performance and attitude. Newfield encourages and supports continuing education. The company offers an excellent benefits package.

    Cons

The company tends to be a little top heavy on managers. It went from having an almost straight line org chart to having multiple layers of managers and leads.

    Advice to Management

Continue providing the leadership you are providing. Newfield employees are proud to work at Newfield and are motivated to go the extra step to help the company succeed.

    Pros

Great staff of professionals to work with. Had a great experience working in the Tulsa office and worked with some great management there.

    Cons

Management in the Denver business unit showed higher preference to their friends and sometime alienate people who are not in their group.

    Advice to Management

Take more time to evaluate the strengths and weakness of your team members. Then help them to grow professionally by building a strategy to help them learn new skills.

I have been working at Newfield Exploration full-time

    Pros

Pay is great. Ample opportunities to move up. Pay is performance driven for the most part. Build your own destiny.

    Cons

Work-life balance is hard to maintain and still deliver results. Infrequent pay bumps, seems you can go for years without an increase and then you get a big increase. Incremental raises would be a better structure. At the mercy of a commodity.

    Advice to Management

Plan ahead and be reasonable with time-lines. Understand that you cannot keep trimming staff and adding more work to existing employees. Statements like "we don't expect you to work more because we laid-off people" is not a true statement; the work must still be done.

I have been working at Newfield Exploration full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. There are some good people and those good people do most of the work and are the reason for past and current success.

    Cons

The great culture that is the reason for the success (see above) has been getting worse for a while. The company rewards those who work harder at fooling everyione that they are valuable instead of the ones who actually bring the true value that keeps NFX alive during times like these. The ones actually doing everythnig are unappreciated. Those who don't do anything have ample time to make themselves visible, steal ideas and/or credit, small talk about useless things, feed the boss' egos in various ways, etc (insert any other deception device people use to fool others). Managament (at every level) falls for it and they are the ones who are valued/compensated/promoted.

    Advice to Management

Use discernment and do not only use a few moments here or there to evaluate employees and their worth. If not, the company will eventually be comprised solely of people posing as employees rather than people actually trying to produce hydrocarbons as efficiently as possible. It has already begun and will only get worse (the exodus of actual doers). Those keeping NFX alfoat are getting tired of doing everything while their peers who do not bring anything to the table are off somewhere sucking up to all the boss.' this type of person will (or already has)eventually get promoted because they have similar small talk opinions.

    Pros

Great place to learn new skills, and expand your mind. Great skilled players don't get promoted.

    Cons

Unskilled, and unethical personnel get promoted. It's all a big tie among leadership and HR. Cannot trust any HR personnel and management act as if bullying of employees is not currently happening.

    Advice to Management

Break the chain, your losing great skilled professionals and promoting unethical, unknowledgeable personnel, Daily!!

Newfield has a team oriented work environment. Management is extremely approachable. The company has dedicated much time to creating a vision, mission and values which has kept the company extremely focused on top tier performance and operational excellence. The leadership team is very appreciative of your hard work and recognizes employees' efforts to make a difference. The operational teams are really top notch and are known for producing best in class wells. Great place to cut your teeth and also spend your career.

    Cons

Company is working on improving process efficiencies and has come a long way in becoming more process driven.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course. Continue to focus on the assets with the greatest returns. Continue to make the tough decisions when necessary. Appreciate the employees that go the extra mile. Lead by example.
