Great company, great people, great product

Business Development (Former Employee) Austin, TX

ProsOrganization is full of very intelligent, fun, personable folks. Very "Austin" work environment, with tons of flexibility and a good grasp of work/life balance. Opportunity to work with some of the top retail brands in the eCommerce industry. FULLY-stocked kitchen, loaded with fresh & healthy foods. Competitive compensation packages.

ConsUnique culture is dissipating away as the company grows into their new identity. Departments are developing rigid silos, driving more and more barriers and challenges to collaboration and getting things done. Lack of any real training internally. Upward mobility and career development options limited to a small section of the company. Focus on new products has resulted in taking their eyes and efforts off of continuing to develop the core competencies that got them to where they are.

Advice to Senior ManagementRealign on the aspects that made you one of the best places to work in Austin. Don't lose sight of continuing to innovate on the core competencies that differentiates you from the competition. While trying to compete with the 800lb gorillas in this space, don't compromise the environment that attracted all the talent that helped power you to such successes. Invest and train, and provide real growth opportunities internally, otherwise the exodus of talent will continue.

Hit or Miss Depending on the Day

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMostly comprised of good, really hardworking people. HR tries to keep the company active and involved in small special events. Company matches 401k contributions. Even with work stress, most people still joke around/laugh/find humor in situations. Fully stocked kitchen every week. Yearly raises (though not always huge increase), and yearly bonus.

ConsThe company has grown too fast in the last year and still functions like a start up. Employees are overworked and overtaxed. Some departments are understaffed and/or using outdated software/inefficient methods. Lack of visibility between departments and lack of efficiency within departments. High turnover within the last year. Benefits are seriously lacking but offset by HSA. PTO is decent but no separate sick days. No option to telecommute.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to the morale of the entire company. Don't get so wrapped up in growing the company that you overlook the well being of the people who make the company a success day in and day out.

My time at Newgistics has been both exciting and sad.

    Packer (Current Employee) Louisville, KY

ProsThe personnel are friendly, and helpful. If you are new to an area they take the time to make sure that you understand what your duties are. The warehouse is clean and well maintained.

ConsThere warehouse in Louisville is closing down and moving to Hebron, KY which is an hour and a half drive from Louisville in good weather and no traffic.

    Very confused management,

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFully equipped kitchen with lots of food.

Cons1) Very high turn over or very quick to turnaround
    2) Not very receptive to process improvement. Like to continue the outdated inefficient business process
    3) When introduce new ideas, senior management become very defensive
    4) Department heads are very territorial and lose the sight of who they are serving in the company
    5) Very unprofessional environment, some employees curses all the time and management does not do anything about them
    6) Employees have 9 - 5 approach and if critical issue requires attention then you have to wait next day. Or if responsible person is on vacation then you have to wait until they come back.
    7) Hire experience managers who trained to work on solution by mitigating the issues instead hiding under the rug.

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen up to the new ideas.
Work with the employees of resolve their challenges.
Managers should be hire for their problem solving skills. Not just promote internally because they are in company for long time, unless they have managerial skills.

Pompous and arrogant company that has drunk their own kool-aid and has a "burn and churn" environment.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsAggressive in their intent to commandeer the etailer marketplace.

ConsArrogance, silo mentality with departments protecting their individual turf. Focused on acquisitions so the investors can finally sell the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop mistreating your team members and get rid of the good ole boy network in Austin. You make it very difficult for new employees to feel like they're part of the company mission because you give the impression that you couldn't care less what others think if they don't agree with your assessment of the marketplace. It's clear you are simply acquiring companies so that you can attempt another IPO since your previous valuation was poor and you were forced to withdraw.
