I have been working at Newmont Mining full-time

    Pros

Great benefits and compensation. Flexible work schedule. Great work location. There were a lot more Pros to working at Newmont until they decided to outsource many jobs to India.

    Cons

Sending jobs to India. Hiring non US employees. Too top heavy. They layoff the workers and keep the mass of upper management.

    Advice to Management

Keep jobs in the US!!!!!! Why send jobs to India when you have very competent employees here that are doing a great job. Saving costs is bull! How much $ are you sending to do this transition??

I worked at Newmont Mining full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule allowing me to work from home when I needed to. Good benefits with lots of paid time off. Nice facility to work in.

    Cons

Direction comes from too many people and it was hard to figure out who was really my boss. Seems there's few opportunities for women even with good credentials.

    Advice to Management

Direction should come from one boss and not matrix managers. Give more women opportunities and you'll see a big difference.

    Pros

Newmont is a Great Company to work for.

    Cons

IT should focus on adding Business Value to the Business Leaders. Value is not added in simple data processing.

I worked at Newmont Mining full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not much, poor management, cutthroat team environment. Inconsistent goals, objectives and constant undercutting people who do the work. The environment creates managements look at me attitude amongst the teams.

    Cons

If you like others throwing others under the bus constantly, work here. If you value relationships, this place will make you think everyone in the world is a devious con artist. If not don't work here. Management thinks they are gods and makes all employees think about themselves. A lot of unnecessary drama here. Oh and constant layoffs. Do you want to fear for your job every day? Then work for Newmont. The culture is horrendous and unsupportive. If you want to go to work and feel motivated, don't apply here, you won't find it.

    Advice to Management

You need a reality check. Those who make comments like feed the grass to fruition, this isn't your same old Dallas Cowboys, elephant in the room, and nothing but buzzwords in meetings, etc, you're not driving the bus, you're creating uncertainty. Learn the fundamentals, trust your employees, and put less value on consultants who are fresh out of college and know nothing about how to run a company. Find core values and stick to them. Follow the fundamentals, create department guidelines that are followed for 20, 30 years to come rather than weekly monthly strategy changes. Put less emphasis on status and more on results.

    Pros

They have good benefits, good pay and were a good global citizen considering they are a mining company. They employ a variety of top-notch, educated employees.

    Cons

Amazing amount of layoffs considering their business is doing well, creating very low employee morale. Getting rid of key employees as well as mailroom workers and almost every administrative assistant. I didn't experience much personal growth there, but overall enjoyed my job. Also had such a large workload that I worked through lunch regularly and stayed late regularly, so not a great work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Why so many layoffs, esp. of so many loyal, low-salaried employees? The people left behind are having to knock themselves out picking up the slack. The upper management, with their enormous salaries, fancy trips, private plane, etc. are certainly not having to cut back at all. It's a shame - used to be such a great company to work for,.

    Pros

Very good leadership training and development opportunities for director and above. Very good pay and benefits packages and 4 day 10-hour/day work weeks in corporate office.

    Cons

Leadership retreat invitations for executives were not extended to certain level or area of responsibility, but to whom was "in" or friends with the right C-Suite executives. Very much a boys club, though a few women have been promoted to senior position over last two years. Forced ranking during reviews even of small teams whose performance may exceed goals. Lots of very well-paid executives at the corporate office who are never held accountable for results.

    Advice to Management

Take a hard look at your project capital spend (not EPC and development capital, but all the other projects that add up quickly) and audit AFTER the projects to determine performance of project sponsors. Do not engage in yet another failed "performance improvement" initiative until you determine why all others have failed over past 20 years.
