    Pros

    - Great pay, great benefits, great global & cultural exposure
    - Great executive leadership that are truly trying to do the right thing
    - A lot of really great people (intelligent, personable, etc)
    - Great non-promotional career development opportunities if you are self-driven
    - Ability to land a position insisting on more experience than you might have; as long as you are a quick learner, have great people skills, and are a good cultural fit into the team dynamic - they'll take a chance on you.

    Cons

    - Holy POLITICS batman! Too many high level Directors with little to no knowledge of the business they are in charge of - busy managing up and neglect actually being good managers.
    - I haven't had a good boss yet. Every manager has been primarily self-interested and focused on promotion with absolutely no focus on the best interest of their employees career development.
    - Terrible talent management. I've referred 5 of of the smartest people I know to open positions with no response from HR. Lots of missed opportunities; usually results in a high-level manager bringing in his/her buddies from a past company.
    - Once again, POLITICS. It may be the nature of a company this size, but I have never seen more grown men in high-level positions act like such children.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top is pointed in the right direction, and the bottom is executing on target - sort out the bad apples in Director roles and pay more attention to employee retention. Allow more internal growth opportunities instead of pulling all of your buddies in and neglecting the future of the company. 90% of the employees have been there less than 5 years - do you ever stop and wonder why?

    Pros

Global organisation that it trying hard to retain employees by changing the culture from mining to becoming a global business.

    Cons

There is a lack of business acumen by some senior managers as they have worked their way up the organisation and are very good miners but not so good at business. There is still a culture of command and control and the idea of risk taking and empowerment are not truly engrained.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a risk and let people be empowered and then you will achieve your aim of being an inventive, progressive organisation.

    Pros

There are always interesting projects and opportunities to learn and grow on the job. The workforce is highly intelligent, and they care. We put out quality, leading edge work in many spaces

    Cons

The Board of Directors and Executive Team are twitchy - the tides of where to head seem to change frequently (~18 months). We've done layoffs around the world for the past 3 years. We have a hierarchical culture that looks for senior advice and go-ahead, unfortunately, with a fair amount of fear underneath of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider what picture to paint of the company 5-10 years from now. We're very short term minded. Focus on the behaviors that will be productive and build relationships.

The overall attitude is not that of a solid engineering company but a popular people club fraught with political games.

Former Employee - Chemist (Metallurgist) in Carlin, NV

    Pros

One can advance their career quickly here. Engineers typically move up very fast.

    Cons

Your success here will not be based primarily on your work or knowledge base. You will need to do your best to be a part of the clique.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversify your hiring base to make a stronger engineering effort.

    Pros

    Good compensation package
    Lots of learning opportunities

    Cons

    lack of coherent organizational structure
    work-life balance
very much a relationship driven organization
cultural and gender diversity was an issue (may have changed to the better now)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline work processes and clarify roles and responsibilities among departments, regions and consequently positions.
Matrix organization is not an excuse to have too many overlaps and even more gaps in responsibilities which make increasingly difficult to move projects forward.
Do something about the "chiefs" to "Indians" ratio - so many "directors" who never managed a single person let alone departments and/or functions.
Good luck and keep growing profitably!

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Greenwood Village, CO

    Pros

There are some really good people still left in the organization, and those that are left really do want to contribute and add value. The compensation and benefits are very good, which makes it a difficult decision to leave when that time comes.

    Cons

The company does not value its people or what they bring to the table. It is growing increasingly old and is migrating towards the 19th century rather than the 21st century in almost every way (technology, culture, management style, etc). Skill sets are rarely looked at or considered, rather they make decisions based on how much gray hair a person has. New ideas, skills, technologies and ways of doing work are rarely considered. The company is dying as a result. Extremely top heavy in the management ranks as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house! Eliminate the bulk of the executive management and delegate to those that know the business and know what is really happening in the organization. Invest in people and technology, and match people to roles based on skill sets.
