I worked at News Corp full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great for your resume - the Fox name is impressive Opportunity to learn a lot

    Cons

Pay is low if you were hired after the recession, with 2% annual raises (can't speak for the union) Understaffed - expect to do multiple jobs Budgets are tight - seems like other station groups outspend us in every market Internal departments as well as sister companies (like Fox Broadcasting) poorly communicate with each other Depending on your title, expect to spend a quarter of your time on conference calls

    Advice to Management

Step away from the bottom line and invest in the happiness of your employees

Horrible place to work, in a culture very racist that disregard minority employees.

I worked at News Corp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People were professional, fun, friendly, collaborative for the most part. Like any place, you're gonna have politics and a couple of bad apples. My job was to bridge IT and the businesses and that for the most part was working - people were responsive to the mission

    Cons

Politics can get in the way of the actual job.

    Advice to Management

Turf wars impact morale and execution. What do you do to discourage or discipline such unproductive behaviors....

    Pros

Benefits are above industry standards, discretionary bonuses, decent vacation, unlimited sick.

    Cons

Micro-Management style, individualism not collaborative, culture of fear and intimidation, lack of resources, no upper mobility. rigid set of standards, refusal to consider different point of view, low employee moral, toxic culture, high turnover, inept people in management positions.

    Advice to Management

Provide your upper level management (EVP and Directors) with sensitivity training, management training should be given to those individuals who come into positions without the required supervisory skill set. High turnover should be a red flag and corrective action should be taken. Encourage an open door policy and feedback. Encourage innovation, thinking outside the box and hold everyone accountable for their actions including inept EVP and Directors.
