I worked at News Ltd. full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Fast-paced newsroom environment
    - Australia's biggest print publisher

    Cons

    - Absolutely chaotic.
    - So many opportunities for efficiency, but management lack the capability for major transformation.
    - Complete disregard for the science behind what people will be interested in; instead basing on gut and an agenda

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the cowboys who call the shots.
Think properly about the future - the paywall was too hasty.

I have been working at News Ltd. full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Quite laid back culture, management is usually friendly, generally flexible

    Cons

No clear career paths, unclear future, outsourcing most technology, politics above business sense, slowly declining business

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Control the fear of declining revenues because the measures taken will only accelerate the rate of decay of a business that can remain highly profitable for another decade or two. Take ICT investment decisions based on ROI rather than on politics, the numbers for many outsourcing projects are heavily manipulated and it is not hard to see it. Company restructures have been strongly demoralizing and it is hard to hear there is no money even for keeping up salaries with inflation and experience when millions are thrown away in overpriced contractors and blow-up 'transformation' project budgets.

I have been working at News Ltd. full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very stable business and great product offerings. Fantastic colleagues.

    Cons

Salaries often well below industry standards, little to no career progression, terrible new comms structure, and poor management policy (too many managers shuffling paper).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide clear career progression, fix the salaries and scrap the new impossible commission structure.

    Pros

There is no real "working back" culture, which means leaving at 5pm is not tabu.
    Close to the train station
Company values are solid and imbedded in each rep

    Cons

    Heavy micromanaged environment
Lots of politics involved in being promoted, not always the best candidate is chosen.
Tranformation changed the culture and we are no longer as vibrant or fun.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

wake up and realise that employees are unhappy
