I have been working at Nexant full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great Company to work For. Customer./Client Service is the number one goal. Promotes growth within. Leading company in Energy Efficiency Delivery, and Utility Services consulting.

    Cons

As for a consulting company, Nexant's policies regarding trainings/courses may not be favorable for some Young Engineers who want to pursue academic classes with company expenses.

I have been working at Nexant full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Flexible with time off and schedules
    -Benefits are fantastic
    -Believes in promoting from within
-Company pays for certifications that benefit your growth at the company
    -Employees are friendly

    Cons

Being based in San Francisco they should consider offering complimentary lunch or breakfast for the employees a few times a month. A lot of companies are also doing Summer hours where on Fridays they have the opportunity to work half days on Friday or work the last half from home. They seem to be trying to get out of outdated practices so I feel positive about their future success.

I worked at Nexant full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I like this company as they all about collaboration and teamwork. They allow you to be the subject matter expert in your field. It provides a platform to do great projects and offers a variety of work that is engaging. My favorite business units is Utility Services and Corporate. The office to make mention of are in Colorado, Arizona, San Francisco, Mass., and New York. You feel like a grown up here and get to grow in a professional environment. Recruiting is a great team that hires quality talent, help coach and guide. A nod to Michael, Karen and Adrienne for the smooth on boarding.

    Cons

Need an employee recognition program, more employee events, tuition reimbursement, more effective performance management, less personal outings and more professional, career development goals should be provided to entire department not just a select few as that can appear unfair.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sponsor an employee annual meeting where all employees can participate and here from CEO the state if Nexant affairs and financial standings.

I worked at Nexant full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Some of the people are good to work with, work can be challenging and there is an opportunity to learn and be exposed to a variety of matters.

    Cons

Poorly managed, absence of leadership. Arrogant senior level management who don't listen to people under them. Very poor resource allocation. Senior management who throw people under the bus to protect their backsides.

I have been working at Nexant full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

A lot creative, hard working, and talented people, everyone is supportive and willing to help. You can learn a lot if you're just starting out in the energy field as an entry level engineer.

    Cons

Upper and some middle management are too focused on the bottom line, without a clear vision of where the company is headed while losing touch of the company's mission. Talented engineers are leaving the company to join competitors because they feel undervalued and disrespected. There is also a lack of mentoring and transference of knowledge from senior to junior staff and lack of encouragement from management to promote professional growth (in some offices).

I have been working at Nexant part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nexant people are the best. They are a group who really cares about doing good work, but the company also puts a high priority on supporting work-life balance. The work is interesting, challenging, and always changing, so you don't get bored.

    Cons

The company does not put a high priority on sending employees to continuing education, outside training, conferences, etc. Expenditures that aren't directly billable to a project are not encouraged, making the company come across as a little bit "cheap" to employees, sometimes (not that we don't have good holiday parties etc).

I have been working at Nexant

    Pros

Learn a lot, easy to get into something new by just voicing the desire to do so, good opportunities for internal growth, great people to work with, flexible hours, decent bonuses. Good first job to have to learn a lot and have a flexible schedule.

    Cons

It's easy to become either drained with too much work or bored with the same repetitive day to day workday, no medium / no standardized work day. Management has been fine in my experience, but it's easy to see the holes in the corporate dept. and how under staffed IT/Accounting are. Company is outgrowing corporate resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in raises/bonuses to current staff so they get more work done instead of investing in new employees. An employee will invest effort at the rate they feel they are getting paid at (someone will provide 75% effort in their day to day work if they feel they are being compensated at 75% of what they should be). Make current, proven, smart, hard working employees, qualified for the higher paying jobs by providing course and training reimbursments instead of hiring more expensive people. It's cheaper to turn an Engineer into a Sr. Engineer by paying for a few $5k classes than hiring a whole new Sr. Engineer at $70k/yr.

I have been working at Nexant

    Pros

Good benefits, some interesting projects to work on. Working towards solving energy issues, not adding to them.

    Cons

We are successful in spite of poor management, zero leadership, no transparency, no ability to set targets and goals and achieve them. Constant organization for the sake of organization with no outcomes, people don't feel valued or "part" of anything. Managers may have good technical experience but no management experience. Company seems to be stuck in the 1990's - for having so many fresh out of college staff the company is stodgy and set in old school values, work schedules, policies, etc. There is no innovation coming from above and no motivation to be better. Nonexistent female leadership. There's no accountability and a lot of finger pointing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within based on skill and ability. Promote women in leadership positions, reassess your leaders and managers for their ability to manage and inspire. Encourage and reward accountability. Look at other successful companies - we are a small company yet we are not nimble and not forward-looking. Look at the Nexant offices where employees are happy - why are they happy and how can you replicate that as company culture? Start caring and start listening.

I have been working at Nexant full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People often talk about working for a company who wants to do something better the world. At Nexant we actually do make the world a better place by working closely with clients on interesting sustainability, energy efficiency, energy technology, and software for productivity projects.

    Cons

With all the hard work sometimes it is difficult to celebrate all the victories of our employees and of our customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to look to hire great employees with a similar mind set. Celebrate employees hard work and milestones. Stick to the values of integrity, hard work, and mix in some additional fun. Keep supporting employees who do the right thing for the customer.
