I have been working at Nexen full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is good, best commute in the oil sands

    Cons

They prefer to hire from outside the company for many leadership roles. Management does not understand the job scope of those who work for them. Low morale. Sometimes it is a toxic workplace. Talent does not say. It does not matter how hard you work or how competent you are, middle management does not notice or care. Unless you are an operator or a male engineer you are stuck in a dead end job. They like to put retirees in leadership roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust the people who work for you. They will be great leaders. Promote from within do not hire externally when you already have good talent. Get with the times, be modern and more flexible or talent will always leave you.

I worked at Nexen as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The company offered many interesting courses regarding the theory and applications in oil industry, as well as courses for self-improvement. The department I worked for also provided me with several different interesting projects to work on.

    Cons

Some of the downtime in between projects left time to yourself. But you must make the best of this time for independent study.
