    Pros

Good career progression if work hard, Management generally communicate well with all staff members. All staff members are easy to get on with

    Cons

Can forget that with a student workforce, overtime not always appreciated especially around exam time. Sale time has too much pressure

I worked at Next Retail part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They give good staff discount and uniform allowance. Booking time off and contracts were good.

    Cons

I started when I was 17, I was therefore only ever considered as someone who was young with no aspirations of going higher. I hoped to work my way up into merit sales and did all the necessary requirements but a year later I was still waiting. Sale times are very stressful. Training is not very good and does not adequately prepare you. Manager showed no respect for staff and I was often left alone on the floor, leaving high security risks. Often spoken to in a rude manner. My contract day changed and I was not informed of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve training.
Ensure respect is shown so that all members of staff feel valued.
Improve fairness and progression opportunities, for all ages.

    Pros

Excellent management who were supportive and nurturing.
Fantastic training that was thorough, well designed and executed with excellent follow up support.
Varied job roles and excellent opportunities for progression.
Cared about your own development and objectives and provided opportunities to reach these for those willing to put in the time and effort.
Great pay - excellent bonus, monthly and seasonally.
Great concessions - 25% discount, Staff Shop access and VIP Sale.
Good long term support and appraisals.
Overall - great, fun and lively working culture, sometimes damaged by business changes.

    Cons

    Constantly changing goalposts.
A lot of pressure on staff which can affect morale.
Difficult to get time off and unrealistic management of holidays.
High degree of flexibility and resilience required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More considerate management of employees with regards to holiday, disputes etc.

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are times that you serve the nicest customers who really appreciate your efforts.

Some of the managers, particularly on my floor are easy going and easy to relate to

    Cons

Pleasing the commercial manager can be somewhat difficult. Hours, one minute you are bombarded with hours to work and other times there are not enough available hours to work and earn a living

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and engage more with your staff. If you were to really sit down and examine why staff members are leaving you'd find that 6-7/10 you are the reason for it.

    Cons

I worked at Next Retail part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pays well for a call centre job and because Next does so well bonuses are near enough a dead certainty

    Cons

Too strict, many changes in managers and no real prospects for promotion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to get some consistency in the work place. Rules are different with each manager so call reviews vary per manager

I have been working at Next Retail part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Good pay eventually
    - 25% discount
    - Uniform allowance
    - Friendly people
    - Nice environment to work in
    - Generally good customers

    Cons

    - Held back by rules
    - Employees aren't very empowered
    - Feel like you have to ask permission for everything
    - Lack of appreciation for good works
    - Focus on the negatives
    - Some incompetent managers
    - Priorities aren't in order

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although there is a strong message of great customer service sent to the stores from the head office, people who have consistently great customer service seem to be overlooked. Furthermore, in-store emphasis on fitting rooms is low, causing a lot of stolen items.

I expected more from such a well known and reputable company.
