Pros
The work environment is great. The experience and knowledge of the team make it a great place to enhance your career. The meployees are treated very well and many subtle benefits make it a fun place to work.
Cons
The decisions of management often created doubt as to the direction of the company. Poor decisions were often unquestioned and led to poor results.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay more connected to the management team and ask deeper questions especially when things are better than expected.
Pros
Excellent engineering talent, good working environment, good career path. It attracted a lots of talent from big company like TI, QC, Nokia, etc., great deal to learn from each other.
Cons
Bad market to enter (WiMAX). If they picked LTE to start with, it may be a success story. Overall strategy unclear.
Advice to Senior Management
Unfortunately it is too late. It should have been started with LTE, not to acquire IPW, and be more cautious on cost.
Pros
They are a high tech company and lots of good research can be done.
Cons
They are not hiring much of people.
Pros
I was hired at NextWave about a year before the shut down in March 2009. During the short time I was there I met some good engineers.
Cons
NextWave is more or less a holding company for spectrum assets worldwide. The other divisions, including the semiconductor division were just there to fizzle out over time. I sometimes wonder if this was the plan all along and that upper management didn't really even care about this group. They certainly had the resources to keep it going, but just laid everyone off in the end. The lay off was handled very poorly as well, with basically no severance or job placement assistance given to employees. I can't imagine that a single one of NextWave's former employees looks back at the company with any remotely positive impression. I certainly don't.
Advice to Senior Management
The CEO once sent a big announcement to employees when an article was posted online that talked about how WAVE stock was a bad investment. OK, fair enough for a CEO to defend the company to employees. What's ridiculous is that when the big layoff happened in March 2009 there wasn't a peep of an announcement or any kind of apology from him to employees. I would love to hear him simply say "I'm sorry that things didn't work out".
Pros
Good Salary and interesting research and development work
Cons
Bad top-level management, waste of money
