    Pros

Medical and 401K benefits with company match.

    Cons

All these reviews pretty much nail it. Company ownership detached from staff and rewarding of "yes men" instead of competent professional leaders. Ownership does not tolerate dissent or disagreement. A lot of turnover, especially from the smartest and best employees because they are unwilling to put up with the disorganization, toxic environment and lack of opportunity to develop professionally. Entrenched middle management who lack polish and management skills. Hiring and promotions based on nepotism and cronyism rather than merit. All in all a pretty terrible place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If they cared at all about creating a positive work environment and less about lining their pockets they might attract and retain higher caliber employees. But they seem to be perfectly content cycling through staff and retaining only those desperate enough to stay. Avoid at all costs.

    Pros

They are willing to invest for you to go to educational seminars to learn about materials that the company uses which could be used in jobs outside the company. There are also some people in the company who are very helpful and passionate in what they do.

    Cons

Very shady process in letting people go. Management (at least my manager there) needs to learn how to communicate better. The overall structure of how some departments run in the company is very disorganized and can frustrate people. No wonder why employee turnover is high there. Given what I know now about this company now with my current job which I love, I would of never have taken the job at Nice-Pak in the first place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If an employee wants to better him/herself, TELL them what they need to do! Especially if they come up and ask you is there a way they can improve themselves. Don't expect them to read your mind. Have open conversations with your employees.

    Pros

People work really hard and hope to be better compensated. They hope, hope, and hope...
The company makes great products and can save lives.

    Cons

Upper Management is clueless at all times. They've been there too long and just don't care. Morale is at an all time low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of being the lowest paid CPG, at least pay competitively with the other companies in the area.
Get rid of all the dead weight and hire people with a zest or passion to work.

Former Employee - Director in Orangeburg, NY

    Pros

People care and recruitment of good people (who unfortunately flee when the veil is lifted)

    Cons

Company moving backwards (too bad financial statements are not public). Most toxic environment you could imagine. Management pays lip service to employees and does not care. They say all the right things to recruit, but flat out lie. Almost every function has very high turnover including senior execs. Bonuses are non-existent despite promises. Everyone keeps leaving. If you are recruited, speak with past employees and understand truly the risks you face. Backstabbing by those you would least expect it from.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO had early, impressive success in building up the company, but his ability to drive the business is over. Let others take over and push aside your ego. The cmpany has potential to turnaround, but it is getting close to too late.

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Depending on your department, you may have the opportunity to work with a motivated, bright, supportive team. If you make a good impression with the right people, they will try to help you succeed

    Cons

Very political. Company has the right intentions but not the right management in place. Too many times we take a step forward only to take two back. Many thinkers with high ambitions but not enough grounded doers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower your team to make decisions, even unpopular ones, if it means benefitting the company in the long run

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Depending on which department you're in it can be an interesting and eventful area made even better by the people/coworkers. Positivity is key.

    Cons

Then placement in other areas where it is chaotic and eventful.. where management is highly disorganized and seeks scapegoats for problems in their system... This company is not at all professional in the way it handles things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

During a re-org, get someone in there to straighten all the kinks and issues with management. Have a better hierarchy in how things are dealt with. Also, hire more people or place existing workers where they are needed.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Orangeburg, NY

    Pros

The place can be at the best considered as a stepping stone, it provides you opportunities and therefore the aspirations to do more than what pertains to your job description and title.
    Work life is quite relaxing.
The work schedule is very good.

    Cons

The company does not care to invest time or money towards training their employees.
Most people have poor work ethic and nor are they are reprimanded accordingly. It feels like anything goes.
Don't expect to be recognized or appreciated for any extra work you may do.
    Most departments are over-staffed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide necessary training to the employees, enforce codes of workplace ethics!!
"Training is an essential step in constructing a rewards system for workplace ethics – employees and their supervisors must understand how to recognize job performance and behavior that coincide with the company’s philosophy and ethics pertaining to business practices."

Current Employee - N/A in Orangeburg, NY

    Pros

Easy location for Rockland and Bergen Counties. Right off the Palisades Parkway or not too far from the Garden State Parkway

    Cons

Low morale due to low pay. Family owned business so they don't need to pay dividends to stockholders and therefore should have more capital for salaries. Very lite training goes on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay competitively and increase benefits. Bring in top management from competition and learn how your competitors train.
