It is a very progressive company looking to be a leader in the industry.

    Cons

I have been working at Nissan North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The base compensation is slightly above average for TN, but do not expect much bonus even if the company is having record profits.

    Cons

Culture of suck ups: HR will tell you that Nissan is a matrixed organization, and they value individuals who can network well. As a culture, this translates a culture of “yes” managers and executives, who are eager to please superiors at all cost, but do no value added work in actuality. Those who work hard do not get growth opportunities because they will be the only ones in their department doing anything, and are saddled with all the work. Their department will do everything in its power to block lateral or vertical movement. People are more focused on pushing work to other than trying to deliver results.

Culture of short-term thinking: Nissan will do everything in its power hit its short term numbers, including delaying key purchases until post-fiscal year, delaying/renege on contract, etc. As a result, there is absolutely no long term investment. I worry about the survival of Nissan 5 years in the future. I reminds of me GM and Chrysler during the Great Recession.

I have been working at Nissan North America full-time

    Pros

Nissan offers great medical benefits and a car allowance for Sr. Analyst positions and above. Depending on the department, rotational assignments are available.

    Cons

Political environment. It's not always what you know but who likes you that gets you promoted. Other than a few great benefits, Nissan's total compensation package is not competitive to what other companies are offering.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees need a career plan and the opportunity for promotions. Employees need a reason to come to work other than a paycheck.

I have been working at Nissan North America as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Good compensation, opportunity to grow and develop skills, flexible schedule, interns are allowed a company vehicle for the duration of employment, friendly and cooperative employees, management is friendly and approachable.

    Cons

Some office politics, some corporate/manufacturing disconnects, but no major flaws. Pros definitely outweigh the cons.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay the course. Nissan's plans for the future appear to be positive and have genuine intent.

I worked at Nissan North America as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

-If Nissan could keep them on, it has some really great young talent in the West Region that make working in your team exciting and diverse.
-Everyday is something different and new to learn/solve.

    Cons

    -Very "Office Space" environment
-No transparency from management about any direction/decisions the company is making, which lends a lot to the rumor-mill
-Some managers are great, but some are overbearing/unorganized/indecisive, so it's really hit or miss
-Getting rid of young talent to keep on tenured, older employees
-Due to corporate reorgs, very quick to cut you even if you and your team are doing a stellar job

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on your pool of younger talent so that the company can grow with its business plan, instead of shuffling around people who do not contribute to the company but have been there a long time. Give employees more notice if you are eliminating their positions, and overall have more transparency in decision-making to foster more trust among your employees so they don't leave feeling like they were mistreated. Follow-through on personal growth plans and opportunities instead of bending the truth to get good talent in the door.

I have been working at Nissan North America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Exceptional pay for this area and they are willing to give you a shot even if you do not have ample work experience, but a show that you're teachable and capable.

    Cons

Management doesn't care who you are or what you sacrifice for the job. Bottom line is all that matters. Work-life balance is nonexistent regardless of what they may say in the interview process. Get the job done and sacrifice your personal life if you have to. That's the attitude of this company. They will run you into the ground and not bat an eye.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take off the blinders. Look past the bottom line. Take care of your people. Fight for them. Stand up for them in the face of ridiculous tasks and unrealistic deadlines mandated by Japan and Hong Kong.

I worked at Nissan North America full-time for less than a year

    Pros

They will work with you on personal appointments. The money was good.

    Cons

This was a contract position. I've never done it before and will never do it again. Don't let them tell you otherwise: Contractors are treated poorly and they are given heavier workloads than permanents and are scrutinized MUCH more closely than permanents. Also, I had 3 different managers in less than a year! The last of which had no business in a management role: condescending and cocky. The contract companies are wet noodles when it comes to backing up their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire fighting mode all the time! Absolutely no training on the pertinent things to know to do the job. Sink or swim and it's rare to find someone to help or answer a question. People run around (probably contractors) with worried looks on their faces. The office culture is very stuffy and politics and backstabbing (J.M.) abound.
