Pros
Still enjoys a huge mind and market share, and therefore opportunities ahead provided the management shows superior vision and execution strength.
Cons
Highly bureaucratic, risk averse, and lack of accountability culture in an industry which is highly organized, constantly innovating and trying new things.
Advice to Senior Management
Change doesn't mean taking a 180 degree turn but to recognize previous strength areas and preserve and nourish those, while changing towards agile model
Pros
Great work environment. Excellent competent and professional employees.
Cons
corporate vision changes every 2 months and management is chasing the latest re-organization. Poor market strategy and in the midst of major restructuring, thus causing instablity in US facilities and many rounds of layoffs.
Advice to Senior Management
Move as fast as possible to instute new organizational changes to match new strategy. An consider changes in the carry-over Exec management.
Pros
- European culture.
- Hi tech industry. Fast pace.
- Flexibility in working hours and from home.
- Competitive salaries.
- Possibility to move around and relocate
Cons
- Very weak HR function
- Too slow to get anything done in a fast pace industry
- Many reorgs resulting in uncertainties and delays
- Teams are scattered across the globe making it difficult to communicate
Advice to Senior Management
- Change HR
- Consolidate offices
- Less frequent reorgs
- Make clear decisions and stick to them
- Bring leadership to middle management
Pros
* Multinational with the potential to visit other sites.
* Get to use some cutting edge technologies.
* Free phones.
Cons
* Immature, nepotistic management.
* Career path extremely political skewed. Promotion based on who you know not how good you are and what you do.
* Not for anyone with ambition.
* Re-orgs every 6 months keeping employees wondering all time.
* Future looks uncertain - it is not clear whether the company will be able to reclaim leadership.
Advice to Senior Management
There appear to be a lot of space middle managers, who manage by spreadsheet and are incapable of decision making. Get rid of these layer to lower hierarchy organization.
Pros
Oppotunities to learn, work on cool projects, but that depends if you have a supportive boss and are willing to go the extra mile yourself.
Cons
Dysfunctional since Elop and his new hires onboard. Re-org without thinking how things work in practice resulting in unclear R&R, overlaps, slow decision.
Advice to Senior Management
Drive accountability at senior levels eg NLT, listen to empolyees and do something, scrub the director/ VP ranks and clean house, recognize senior/managers before they all quit
Pros
Nokia has a great work/life balance. Also, they are open to hear from people regardless of position.
Cons
Senior management was very slow to act on the iPhone challenge. Also, working in satellite office meant that we had little input to our direction, at least in the case of my project.
Advice to Senior Management
Work like crazy to come up with a competitive smartphone, market it in the US, then push to innovate so that they have something unique (vs iPhone and Android).
Pros
Besides the Nokia name, work life balance can be achieved if you know how to get it.
At the very least the company knows of basic standards like ITIL & PMP.
Good medical benefits.
Cons
Overdone cost cutting, firing of good vendors, illogical company polices that favour one vendor over. Cares too much about face value of cost, despite not getting value.
Employee Performance rating is not accurate. Does not reflect efficiency but popularity.
Poor pay increment. (All Countries), Almost no hope of promotion unless your friend quits or recommend you (As confirmed by other reviews)
Management staff (Outside europe) are given too much freedom and power, without REAL checks and balances. Abuse of power especially in Asia branches.
Like many reviews, upper management always changing direction. Always swinging from one extreme to another.
Like many companies on the downtrend, upper management perfers distinguishing themselves to avoid retrenchment than actually doing the right thing.
Advice to Senior Management
1) Andrioid, forget about being 1st in Windows mobile, few will buy that product
2) Smaller portfolio of phones, look at apple. 3GS for poor, iphone 4 for middle class, iphone 5 for those who can afford.
3) Flatten the Org Chart even more
4) Still too many employees , Sack bottom 50%, get rid of usless positions
Pros
Very, open global and intercultural company, where it is possible, even recommendable, to take international assignments in order to move ahead in career. Nokia provides and supports good learning opportunities and carries responsibility about environment but also employees during lay-offs.
Cons
Currently facing challenges and tough competition which is making the work stressful sometimes. It might be difficult to move ahead in career without pulling the strings. It is difficult to get rid of the friend-hiring in the large organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Please pay more attention to the hiring during the restructurings. There are too many examples of nominations of persons who clearly are not the best-of-the-bunch.
Pros
very europe culture. employee feel easy and comfortable
Cons
less innovation, moving slowly which is not good for current changeing market
Advice to Senior Management
need to consider more change and innovation
Pros
Staff are empowered and there is minimal micro management.
Excellent work/life balance.
Great training and career growth opportunities.
Great achievement and bonus incentives.
Cons
Multiple re-orgs have left some teams demotivated.
Advice to Senior Management
Quicker and clearer communication required.
