Carrier alignment in R&D is a key miss and regional focus to a global strategy relies on strong carrier alignment and intelligence.

    Pros

Nokia had a wonderful culture. Work-life balance was very good, and colleagues were very supportive and knowledgeable. Great to work with colleagues in several different countries around the world. Benefits were above average (100% matching on 401k up to 8%, good medical and dental, etc.).

    Cons

Could be a little bureaucratic at times (like any large organization). Unfortunately, the phone business did not keep up with Apple and Google. Consequently, phone business was sold to Microsoft.

    Advice to Management

Nokia's name is still a great brand in many places around the world. Use that Finnish ingenuity and "sisu" to come back strong once again.

    Pros

Have worked for them since the Siemens days (28 yrs) and seen lots of merges and layoffs but they have made the right decisions at reducing the size, selling off divisions that would hold them back and removing people that aren't focused on improving the company and customer relations. Great people to work with; Innovative designs; Teamwork

    Cons

Too many sub-contracted employees that don't have the same drive as badged employees

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and drive us to number one. Stay customer focused and reward performing employees.

    Pros

work life balance is usually great, good work environment. Some great co-workers.

    Cons

confusing, frustrating, irritating management decisions. No real structure to anything that is being done. Lack of communication between groups will be the downfall of the this company. Vision for the future is too nokia specific don't know how to create a clear vision and be aware of where the real competition is hiding. Every single engineer will become extremely frustrated at some point at this company.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes to what is already out there in terms of ip/cloud transformation than look at your own transformation and see your misalignment, you will not create the future with your vision, but you must learn to exist in it.

    Pros

Exposure to new products. Being stretched has been a reward in learning new skills

    Cons

Poor communication very political. Lack of focus on quality. PM is focused to deal with risks with little support from management. Reactive versus proactive employee morale is low.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication with PM's, PdM's and Engineers the root cause of issues are masked by inefficient Line and Resource Managers.
