    I worked at Nokia Networks

    Pros

    Friendly people to work with
Great place to work if you want to come to the US from another company - they give away green cards like they were sales flyers
    Great salaries

    Cons

Terrible equipment (old laptops are recycled even when they are out of warranty with little or no IT Support)
Terrible leadership - completely dysfunctional leadership teams
    Constant Lay-Offs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To the executives - Be honest with yourself and look around. Stop making promises to employees that you can't keep. Quit being such wimps and stand up to "global". Quit spending so much time money and effort on people that only do excel and powerpoint presentations for a living and actually know how to manage people!

I have been working at Nokia Networks

    Pros

Great benefits. Good people and lots of time off.

    Cons

Promotions are not handled fairly and generally end up hiring outside for key management positions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Want to be the best place to work winner? Promote within. Especially when there is a so called hiring freeze, salary freeze and promotions freeze, that is for everyone except friends being brought in from Nortel.

    NSN, The emotional appeal.

Former Employee - Learning Solutions Consultant in Atlanta, GA
Former Employee - Learning Solutions Consultant in Atlanta, GA

    I worked at Nokia Networks

    Pros

The opportunity to work for a global company and in particular as a former Nokia employee, an opportunity to be part of start up with 60,000 employees from day one.

    Cons

Post jv, restructure and extreme competition placed management in a tough position where they had to reduce operating costs drastically to compete. This movement and lack of real comunication of company vision affected team performance and overall moral. At this point the biggest issue is lack of trust between employees and management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice is an actual focus on employees emotional welfare. Without an emotional comittment from the employees, NSN is doomed to fail as a result of brain drain which is currently in progress in North America.
The concept of The Spider and the Starfish is an example NSN should learn. You do not become more strategic by centralizing as in the case of the Spider. Empower your employees and TRUST them, openly communicate the vision and values and give regions more autonomy. A starfish cut in five places becomes 5 individual starfish with the same inate objective. This is the only way NSN can effectively compete in all regions.
