I have been working at Nokia Networks full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The lean approach to R&D is somewhat misguided right now (quality issues), however NSN is trying hard to slowly refine it and make it work. They have made a strong emphasis on Quality, they have narrowed their businesses & portfolio to increase focus on Mobile Broadband Networks products, and they have taken difficult steps with RIFS and streamlining the org. All steps in the right direction. I think the company has the right "spirit". It is still not certain how successful they will be, but their "head" (management strategy) is in the right place in my opinion. They also encourage lateral moves across functional areas.

    Cons

Salaries seem low compared to industry. Not much upward growth opportunity at the moment (understandable due to recent restructuring efforts, hope this gets better soon). Slightly chaotic R&D environment (very lean and scrum team oriented, which is difficult to manage in such a large org).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Heading in the right direction, keep going.

I worked at Nokia Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are a manager then this is the company for you and you can plan your retirement from here.

    Cons

Your manager is your god. He is the one who will make or break your future in NSN. No accountability of Line/Resource Managers.
It is a company focussed on Managers. No value of skills. There EES are fake and Ethics are low. Probably worst in North America.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value people and try to make your managers work. You cannot succed with only having managers on board. Dont Outsource the technology.

I worked at Nokia Networks as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Never had to work any forced overtime, got decent lunch breaks

    Cons

Had a system in place like you would see in in a Tier1, customer focused call center. If I'm doing the highest level troubleshooting available within the company on this equipment, I don't need you tracking my potty breaks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Last I heard, most everyone who was there when I was there a few years back has left... which I think speaks for itself.

I have been working at Nokia Networks full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They have made tremendous progress turning the business around after finally making the tough business and personnel decisions which were required

    Cons

Job stability. Being acquired fully by Nokia not likely to help given their situation of bleeding cash. Culture at times focused on activity vs results.

    Pros

Large Company - some opportunity to move around between different organization and different products - but the products all seem to be silos
