I have been working at Nokia full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salaries are great. Get to work with people all over the world, doing lots of interesting things

    Cons

Bloated management that things the "good old days" are still here.

I worked at Nokia full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some nice smart people. Good salary when they actually paid bonuses. Nice facilities and location.

    Cons

Anti American bias even at the silicon valley office. The bias does not result in a hostile workplace. Generally they are nice people but you can't succeed beyond your little box there unless you are a Fin. You will notice especially among the engineers. When a non-Fin goes for a posted rec he may get an informal chat but then the rec get closed and reopened with a slightly different description and a young man from Finland show up with the job. The game is rigged against you. Do your job, keep your head down, and the world is good. There is not a culture of throwing people under the bus.

    I worked at Nokia full-time

    Pros

Great people, motivated, passionate. Good work life balance in theory (lots of trips to FInland). Vacation etc was good.

    Cons

Failure to deal with market situation had the company in a doom loop. The annual summer re-org got old very quickly. American HR practices felt weird in a European company ethos.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Nokia full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits and competitive salaries

    Cons

    Lack of work/life balance
International business means 24/7 with no true off weekends

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to clean the exec management team, for some reason layoffs seem to skip the higher level

I worked at Nokia full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Office culture is easy to grow into and understand. Encouragement from all of my managers was consistent with moving up / forward. Management style is straight forward, open-door. Product quality is five-star!

    Cons

Slow to bring next generation devices to market.

I have been working at Nokia full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Fun place to work for, very friendly people around, good culture. The benefits and compensation are good, work/life balance could be achieved. There is also a lot of freedom in how things should be done, so there is enough room for creativity and self-improvement.

    Cons

Nokia prefers hiring agencies as opposed to building strong technical teams. The majority of web projects are not done in house. The end result is that managers on all levels lack technical expertise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build strong technical teams. Hire people who could handle solving problems themselves, without bringing a 3rd party. Make sure that project and product managers possess good technical knowledge.

I have been working at Nokia full-time

    Pros

Professional management, growing, interesting work pushing the frontiers, world class amenities and resources, good salaries, Scandinavian corporate culture (empathy). I used to work at Apple and my job here is 10 times more interesting and the pressure is more reasonable. Since shedding the mobile phone business Nokia is profitable and growing.

    Cons

Some of the inertia of a big company, vestiges of a past that included downsizing (paranoid employees), Scandinavian corporate culture (lack of urgency, focus), bad food.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the people at the top are really providing leadership, and a lot of other platitudes about trust and cooperation, encouraging creativity and innovation, etc.

I have been working at Nokia as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I have a great boss, great location and great pay.

    Cons

Undervalued as an intern. Significantly younger than coworkers. I informed a friend of an internship at my company who got a full-time offer well before me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help me progress and be better at my job rather than having me find my way all on my own.

I worked at Nokia full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great people all across the globe that are excited to work in many different aspects to create iconic products connecting happy customers. My management team was great, but it differs greatly from group to group.

    Cons

each site is different, but always a good vibe and energetic colleagues. Tough to see the amount of change that was inflicted on the company by changing industry trends and the required management action to try and stabilize

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
