    I worked at Nordic Cold Storage full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    the people in the location I worked were great people and the hours were good

    Cons

    The upper management that is there now is cleaning house and don't care about the employees they have been there for years, also they don't stand by there employees. Information that is needed never reaches who it needs to go to and if it does get to them it is usually to late.

    Advice to Management

    Better pay, stand by your employees, actually talk to your employees and listen to them they want to do a good job and they work hard upper management just doesn't appreciate it.

    Pros

    As long as you work hard and don't complain it is a stable job that you can count on getting a check every week.

    Cons

    Too cold for what they make you do, equipment is all rundown, management picks favorites and isn't easy to work with, pay is too low and raises are only 30 cents a year!

    Advice to Management

    Lead men need to be changed, should have opportunities for employees that work hard and are bright to move up to better work & paying jobs.

    Pros

    none that I can think of....very poor management team, lack of honesty, communication, poor planning, intimidated by fresh ideas and new management that has progressive ideas that work.

    Cons

    lack of communciation as well as hiring is relegated to the lower echelon employees that are unmanageable. The lack of honesty and communication of upper management makes it difficult for front line employees to buy into the mission of the company.

    Advice to Management

    more professionalism, honesty, better communication and consistency in treatment of all employees...maybe needs to bring on a completely new management team.

    I have been working at Nordic Cold Storage full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    4 day work weeks, 3 days off. As a permanent employee you are available to get the monthly bonus if no employee gets hurt that is. You get weekly paychecks on Friday.

    Cons

    The pay rates for the conditions and hours expected to work are utterly horrible. Most people come in as temps and start out at $10.00 Once you get past the 1st year you only get a raise once a year and the pay increases are .35c. They have busy and slow seasons, when its slow your subjected to being sent home early. 40 hours are not always guaranteed. As far as the monthly bonus goes, If one person gets hurt you can kiss your bonus goodby even if its on your day off or if your on vacation. Nordic recently had a fire breakout due to a tractor trailers cooling system. The fire happened on a different dock than I work on and we lost our bonus behind that but the dock where the fire happened, they ended up getting their bonus for that month. Nordic continues to show its employees that they just do not care about us.

    Advice to Management

    Management often sucks. They hire so many people that sometimes it makes no sense. Nordic is a revolving door. People do not want to stay at this job because the pay rates are horrible for the hours and conditions you are asked to work in.

    Pros

    Management takes care of hard-working employees. Growing company with lots of room for advancement as they expand West. Work-team bonuses a possibility.

    Cons

    Work can go from slow to super busy quickly. When things are busy management is pressured to get it done now which trickles down. Can be high stress at times. Monthly bonus is lost when other employees are not careful or make mistakes.

    Advice to Management

    Divide the bonus program among smaller teams/groups of employees.

    I worked at Nordic Cold Storage full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive salary and flex time and great location no matter where you live at in the city. Nice sized cubicles and plenty of storage space for a comfortable environment. Fully stocked with supplies and things that are necessary to do the job.

    Cons

    Lack of proper training. Your peers train you. You are trained very fast and if you ask questions are for something to be repeated you are smart mouthed. If you don't have things perfected by your second day on the job you are terminated without warning. You have no voices as your coworkers opinion of you is taken into consideration and you are not given a fair chance to explain your side.

    Advice to Management

    Please treat everyone fair and at least talk to a person before immediately terminating them. Your a wasting company dollars. Not everyone will learn in one day if they are not PROPERLY TRAINED.
