I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nordstrom is a great company to start at! Easy way to make decent money, especially while I was still in school. I gained a ton of sales experience and met a lot of cool people. My customers were awesome and I loved selling to them.

    Cons

The hours are all over the place and it is hard to request days off. I worked most Friday nights and weekends.

    Advice to Management

The store manager was great, but some of the department managers are too controlling.

    Pros

Great company to work for because of the culture. Great teams, great people, great product. Everything is great. Flexible schedules.

    Cons

No work life balance whatsoever. Very hard to not think about the business when away from it. Retail hours obviously are rough.

    Pros

You set your own salary, you get what you give in every way. If you sulk on the sales floor your going to make $10 an hour, work your hardest and you can make five times that.

    Cons

Nordstrom does care about its employees, sometimes a bit too much, occasionally people who really should have been let go long ago are allowed to stay because the company has such a hard time firing people which hurts everyone else's work environment.

    Advice to Management

Be more selective with who you hire and nurture growth in these people, the best managers already do this but it could be more widespread.
