    Pros

Nice idea of having base salary and also making commission in sales

    Cons

It's very important that you and your dept manager are a great match in coaching your team, otherwise it is very hard to lead with no support from upper management

    Advice to Management

You are a coach as well, and need to learn to be able to teach and improve your team for the better. Without teamwork, your department will not succeed in making sales and numbers.

    Pros

The people I got to work with, the way they allow you to make your own decisions, and give you the tools necessary to make customers happy.

    Cons

I was in cosmetics, and the events can be tough, pre-sales and making goals was sometimes hard.

    Advice to Management

Try not to have favorites, and DO what you tell your employees to do, not just say it.

    Pros

    great benefits
discounts for employees and special events
annual and semi annual events given by the company to recognize sellers
The CEO will reply back to your emails
contests galore and you actually win

    Cons

too many hours for slow traffic limiting you to have any other job
    any other experience, background area that you have in your career it is ignored if you do not sell or push rewards;
during training it is said that if selling was not your biggest, there was other areas to grow with the company. Not true.
turn over rate at this point should be concerning due to the fact of the many people ive seen being trained and not being placed in the department they were told. Its just not right .
perfomance goals are based upon past years and not even discussed until the very last day of pay period.
returns have become a big concern because the customer is free to return EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING, affecting your numbers.

    Advice to Management

When I came to this company, I had a career under my sleeve and I was appreciated by the employees that hired me, making me very excited about my future with the company. I patiently waited for my opportunity to come and it just didnt "because I am not a good seller" when the field I was interested at does not consist of selling . I am very disappointed because I love the people that worked with me and customers.

    Pros

    Non-commission role
Fewer expectations than a Counter Manager/ employee
Freedom to 'run my own business'
    Brilliant product line

    Cons

    Low bonus scale (max +$200/month)
    Unknown brand with little advertising
    Constantly calling/contacting customers
    Heavy turnover (retail)
No real room for raises, advancement, ect.

    Advice to Management

Share responsibility to all on the floor and hold them accountable to their jobs. Just because this is a non-commission role DOES NOT mean it's your go-to grunt
    worker.

Fight for raises, awards or any other acknowledgement of top talent. Help keep them from rotating out.

    Pros

Great friendly people and other employees. Nordstrom culture is a great culture to be apart of and thrive in. If you are great at people and multitasking, this is the place for you. Nordstrom loves to develop people to promote.

    Cons

You must learn how to work with different types of people and be able to stay organized! Time management in an upper level position is critical.

    Advice to Management

You've been doing it right for over a century. Keep it up.
