I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are good. The discounts are reasonable, most of the people are awesome. The company culture is wonderful. They promote from within. They carry some great merchandise much of it reasonably priced.

    Cons

Their return policy is great for the customer but awful for the salesperson. Some sales expectations are unreasonable, especially in a down economy. Holiday hours are crappy for any kind of meaningful family time. If you are not a shark or barracuda type salesperson it is difficult to make a great living, especially with their return policy. Any customer could bring back any item even well worn old styles & if they had their receipt it didn't matter how long ago it was purchased it came out of your commission if you were the salesperson.

    Advice to Management

After 1 year returns should be eaten by the company, penalizing the salesperson for fickle customers is not employee friendly.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is about as good as can be expected while still in school. As a salesperson it is really up to you how much money you want to make.

    Cons

Trying to move up in management is tough. There is a lot of brown nosing that must be done to the right people. Hard work goes unnoticed a lot of the time.

    Advice to Management

Instead of promoting your buddies, look to see who is actually best at his/her job.

I worked at Nordstrom full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

make a lot of money if you sold a lot

    Cons

anyone can do this job, definitely don't need a college degree- so why they have an "internship" that they try to trick well-educated students into entering is beyond me. i went to a top college and during the internship i was literally just working as a salesperson alongside highschoolers. Also, needing to work every weekend (in the summer, when I wanted to take weekend trips) was not fun. Surprisingly, even in the DC area, the fashion industry is full of vicious backstabbers.

    Advice to Management

be more transparents and not so fake,
