I have been working at Nordstrom Rack part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good Pay, lots to learn, can be fun to work (sometimes), moving up is easy.

    Cons

management, pressure for rewards, favoritism, fluctuating hours (mainly because its seasonal)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest them to become a little more professional and to quit acting like drama queens. There is a trio of managers that team up as a unfortunate set up to work for at times. Some can never accept being wrong for once and there are some department managers who feel they have the right to treat associates from another department rudely as is if they know them. It can be dramatic, it can be hectic especially when short staffed, its just a lot of drama all at once. I really do like working here but i feel that the reason some managers are very passive and don't acknowledge me is because I refuse to promote myself and I do not see a future for me and this job, only because its not my chosen profession.

I worked at Nordstrom Rack part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good pay for the job people hold. I started at 10.95 as a cashier and within a year and a half moved to $12.40 per hour.

Good benefits as far as 401K, there is the option to do insurance but you have to work over a certain amount of hours continuously.

Management cared and were excellent. When lines were intense the management teams were up in the registers doing everything they could to make our lives better.

    Cons

Not enough staff to really give the store more potential. With the Customer Service Rep position and many positions in the store you seriously feel like you need another employee to be pulling half the weight. However that is many places and by far this place did the best of the places I have worked.

I found it hard to get promoted to management, however you have to work hard for what you want. However there are opportunities to grow, in different roles you can play to be a key player in the stores growth.

Selling credit and debit cards is tough and it's a part of your annual performance to sell them per shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management team at the Temecula Commons store was amazing!

There's too much pressure to open a credit card. You were open three cards a day. Management doesn't assist when extra coverage is needed on the floor.

    I worked at Nordstrom Rack

    Pros

Good discount, creative outlet, interaction with great customers made for good days, ability to grow and develop a team

    Cons

Favoritism, bad upper management, loyal employees of more than 25+ years fired due to company "restructuring," poor employees are kept around if they are favorites despite terrible customer service and work ethic, unprofessional coworkers, catty drama and politics, materialistic and vapid culture

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the many managers/assistants who lack any real training or skill in building teams and who are self-serving and into playing the politics game and reward those hard-working individuals who do their job everyday effectively and efficiently with promotions. I've tried to promote those I've found really skilled to be told they weren't "Nordstrom" enough, meaning they didn't follow the schmooze-hungry and fake persona of others.
